Armed Security Officer – Church Security

Location: Austin, Texas — MLK Area
Schedule: Sundays, 9:30 AM–1:00 PM
Additional Availability: On-call for special events and funerals

Position Overview

A church in the Austin, Texas area near MLK is seeking a professional, attentive, and courteous Armed Security Officer to provide a safe and welcoming environment for church members, guests, staff, and visitors.

The ideal candidate will be observant, dependable, physically capable of standing and remaining alert for extended periods, and able to interact respectfully with people from all backgrounds.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide a visible security presence during Sunday worship services.

• Monitor entrances, exits, parking areas, and general church activity.

• Remain alert and attentive throughout the entire assignment.

• Identify and appropriately respond to potential safety or security concerns.

• Assist with maintaining a safe and orderly environment without unnecessarily disrupting church services.

• Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with church members, visitors, staff, and leadership.

• Respond appropriately to emergencies and contact law enforcement or emergency services when necessary.

• Provide security coverage for special church events and funerals on an on-call basis.

• Communicate professionally with church leadership regarding security concerns or incidents.

• Complete any required incident documentation.

Requirements

• Must be currently licensed/authorized to work as an armed security officer in Texas, as applicable to the position.

• Must provide and use your own firearm and required duty equipment.

• A duty shirt will be provided by the church.

• Must be physically capable of standing and remaining alert for extended periods.

• Must be observant, dependable, punctual, and professional.

• Must demonstrate good judgment and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

• Must be comfortable working around families, children, seniors, and a diverse congregation.

• Must be courteous, respectful, and approachable when dealing with church members and guests.

• Must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while on duty.

• Must be willing to work Sunday mornings and accept additional assignments for special events and funerals when available.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal officer understands that church security is about more than simply providing an armed presence. The officer should help create an environment where people feel safe, respected, and welcomed while remaining vigilant and prepared to respond appropriately to security concerns.

Reliability, discretion, good communication, and professionalism are essential for this position.
