Job Description

Employment Type: Short-Term / Temporary Event Assignment

Schedule: Day and Overnight Shifts | Approximately 8–12 Hours Per Shift

Rodgers Security Solutions Inc. (RSS) is seeking dependable, professional, and team-oriented Event Security Guards for a short-term assignment supporting a large convention in the San Diego area in November 2026.

This event attracts thousands of attendees each day and requires security personnel who can work effectively in a fast-paced, high-traffic environment while maintaining professionalism, situational awareness, strong communication, and attention to assigned responsibilities.

  • Candidates must possess an active California BSIS Guard Card and be willing to participate in required online and on-site training before the assignment.

Position Responsibilities

Event Security Guards may be assigned to crowd management, access control, screening, stationary posts, roving assignments, or other security functions based on operational and client needs.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with attendee screening, access control, and crowd management
  • Maintaining assigned security posts for extended periods
  • Performing roving assignments and moving between designated posts throughout a large venue when assigned
  • Navigating high-volume pedestrian traffic and large crowds
  • Monitoring assigned areas for safety, security, access, and policy concerns
  • Following RSS, client, venue, and post-specific work orders and policies
  • Responding appropriately to changing assignments, post orders, and operational conditions
  • Communicating concerns, incidents, and operational updates through the appropriate chain of command
  • Completing Daily Activity Reports (DARs), incident reports, and other required documentation when applicable
  • Working cooperatively within security teams that may consist of approximately 4–10 personnel
  • Reporting to designated supervisors and managers within a dual-reporting leadership structure
  • Maintaining professional conduct, discretion, and appropriate boundaries with attendees, vendors, clients, venue personnel, and fellow security professionals

Security personnel are assigned to the convention to work and provide professional security services. Employees should understand that they are not attending the convention as guests or participants and are expected to remain attentive to their assigned responsibilities while on duty.

Work Environment

This assignment requires candidates who are comfortable working in a dynamic, high-volume event environment that may include:

  • Working around thousands of attendees and in crowded, high-traffic areas
  • Working around loud noises, changing activity levels, and frequent environmental distractions
  • Remaining at an assigned security post for extended periods
  • Navigating throughout a large venue and moving between assigned locations when performing roving or mobile duties
  • Adapting to changing client needs, post assignments, schedules, or operational conditions
  • Receiving updated instructions with limited notice, including during an active shift
  • Communicating professionally with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Working collaboratively as part of a security team

Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of their assigned position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Specific duties and physical demands may vary depending on the assigned post.

Post orders and assignments may change from day to day or during an active shift based on client requirements, event activity, staffing needs, safety considerations, or other operational factors.

Day and Overnight Opportunities

Both day and overnight shifts are available.

While overnight assignments may involve less interaction with convention attendees, overnight personnel are expected to maintain the same level of professionalism, communication, situational awareness, attentiveness, and follow-through as daytime personnel.

Candidates should understand that reduced public activity during overnight hours does not reduce the importance of maintaining an alert and professional security presence. Venues, equipment, access points, and other assets may remain vulnerable during these hours.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Possess an active and valid California BSIS Guard Card
  • Be available for the temporary November 2026 assignment
  • Be willing and able to complete required online and on-site training
  • Be available to work assigned shifts of approximately 8–12 hours
  • Demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality
  • Possess strong time-management skills
  • Be able to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Communicate professionally with supervisors, coworkers, clients, event personnel, and members of the public
  • Be comfortable working within a structured chain of command and dual-reporting environment
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt to changing operational conditions, assignments, and instructions
  • Be able to perform the essential functions of the assigned security position, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Be able to report with sufficient time to clock in, receive daily work orders and assignments at the command post, and proceed to the assigned post by the designated start time

Preferred Qualifications

The following experience or qualifications are beneficial but not required:

  • Event or convention security experience
  • Crowd management or crowd control experience
  • Access control or security screening experience
  • De-escalation experience
  • Conflict-resolution skills
  • Experience working large public events
  • Security supervisory, lead, or team-management experience
  • Experience working within multi-level or dual-reporting leadership structures
  • Bilingual or multilingual communication skills

Professional Expectations

Because this assignment involves direct interaction with clients, convention attendees, venue personnel, and other security professionals, employees are expected to:

  • Maintain a professional and service-oriented demeanor
  • Exercise discretion and good judgment
  • Follow established chains of command
  • Remain attentive to assigned responsibilities
  • Communicate concerns promptly and professionally
  • Work cooperatively with team members
  • Follow RSS and client policies, procedures, work orders, and post instructions
  • Understand that assignments and operational priorities may change as event conditions evolve

Uniform Requirements

Employees must provide and maintain the following items in clean, professional condition:

  • Plain black slip-resistant work shoes or boots
  • Tan or khaki BDU/work pants
  • Plain black belt
  • Plain black T-shirt

A company-issued uniform shirt will be provided.

Additional information regarding dress code, grooming standards, and uniform requirements will be provided during the interview and onboarding process.

Compensation

$20.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on relevant security experience, qualifications, and assignment responsibilities.

Successful completion of this temporary assignment may also result in consideration for future event and non-event security opportunities in the San Diego area.
