Summary:
The Senior Security Officer provides high-quality services for patients, families, visitors, and team members by ensuring a safe and healthy environment. The Senior Officer is a professional development specialist who supports the shift supervisor in their role and fills in when the supervisor is not present. The Senior Officer is responsible for the one-on-one field training of newly hired officers, their annual training requirements, and facilitating lifelong learning and professional development activities amongst the staff. The Senior Officer will provide supervisory support for the shift and, through applying adult learning theory and effective instructional design, will deliver measurable program outcomes in new hire orientation, ongoing competency, in-services, continuing education, and career development.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond urgently to incidents of workplace violence, fire, medical emergencies, bomb threats, flooding, hazardous materials, inclement weather, and other emergencies. Assist with security needs/concerns from patients, families, staff, and visitors.
  • Responsible for the one-on-one field training of all newly hired officers, and all officer annual training requirements.
  • Provide supervisor support throughout the shift and assume the supervisor role during their absence or unavailability. Responsible for the shift requirements to ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct comprehensive patrols of assigned facility/property, both internally and externally, to ensure adherence to system and hospital policies, accreditation, and regulatory requirements. Remain vigilant for signs of crime, disorder, hazard, and unusual/suspicious activity.
  • Provide high-level de-escalation during crisis management for patients, families, staff, and visitors. Serve as a trained SSPV responder to all high-risk patient needs, employing advanced tactics beyond bedside staffing, training, and competencies.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • At least 2 years Related experience (i.e. healthcare, hospitality, law enforcement, military, or security) required

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Two-year Associate’s degree or equivalent experience Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Security, or closely related field preferred preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Valid State of Texas Driver’s License Upon Hire required
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements 60 Days, required
  • Texas Department of Public Safety – Texas Private Security Non-Commissioned Security Officer Level 2 certification OR Texas Private Security Commissioned Security Officer Level 3 certification 180 Days required
  • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety Supervisor level Certification for CHSS Certified Healthcare Security Supervisor within 180 days of hire. 180 Days required
  • TEEX Security Telecommunicator Dispatcher Course (SAP110) 180 Days required
  • Advanced Level Certification (CAHSO) obtained through International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety organization 1 Year required
  • Texas Department of Public Safety – Texas Private Security Commissioned Security Officer Level 3 certification 180 Days preferred
