Title: Security Guard – Patrol

Employment Type: Full-Time

Pay Rate: $19.49/hr

Site: The Michener Institute

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 15:00 – 23:00

Overtime Methodology: ESA

The Michener Institute of Education at UHN is Canada’s only specialized institution dedicated exclusively to applied health sciences education. Located in downtown Toronto, it offers a collaborative, inclusive, and practice-based environment focused on advancing healthcare excellence and patient care.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Protect the safety of people and property on site.

• Conduct interior and exterior patrols, documenting site conditions, safety concerns, and weather impacts.

• Respond to security incidents, alarms, and calls for service while delivering strong customer service.

• Monitor security consoles, including CCTV, access control systems, and secure elevators.

• Verify employee and visitor credentials, restrict unauthorized access, and manage lost and found items.

• Provide safety escorts to emergency contractors and assist with managing aggressive situations.

• Help prevent illicit substances or weapons on property, securing items and contacting Toronto Police Service as instructed.

• Complete clear, accurate incident reports before shift end and notify the Site Supervisor of operational issues.

Must Haves

• At least 2 years of security guard experience.

• Valid Ontario Security Guard License.

• Valid WSIB-approved Standard First Aid & CPR Level C certification.

• Certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB), or willingness to complete Paladin’s free certification program prior to onboarding.

• Proficiency in written and spoken English.

• Willingness to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check.

• Legal authorization to work in Canada.

Nice-to-Haves

• Police Foundations Diploma or similar/related field
