NCIS Deputy Head of Security
Minimum of 5 years of documented supervisory-level security experience.
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Head of Security (HOS), the Deputy Head of Security (DHOS) helps safeguard the students, personnel and properties of NCIS. The DHOS plays an essential role in ensuring safety and security at all campus sites, and must be a dependable professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, diverse, high-stress environment. Professional demeanor and adherence to uniform appearance standard is mandatory at all times.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides day-to-day guidance and oversight of security officers; actively works to promote and recognize performance.
- Acts in the place of the HOS when HOS is off duty.
- Responsible for understanding and enforcing rest and meal break laws, coordinating break schedules to maintain adequate coverage and uninterrupted operations.
- Interfaces with other security personnel, with teachers, staff and students, and with visitors, vendors, the public and outside agencies.
- Ensures security officers are following all policies and procedures directed by NCIS.
- Conducts training of officers’ duties and responsibilities and refreshers as needed.
- Counsel officers on matters related to their post, customer service, and best approaches for situational learning.
- Works as a team leader by providing readiness training for potential emergencies.
- Observes alarms, CCTV, phone lines, and life safety and other monitoring systems to respond effectively to intrusion, distress, hostile acts, fire, hazardous material spills, accidents, thefts and medical incidents.
- Reports any untoward incident and takes appropriate action.
- Notifies, assists and directs external emergency personnel and internal emergency response teams (ERT), as necessary.
- Provides access to visitors and authorized school persons into the building(s).
- Works in tandem with the front office, greeting and directing visitors to the front office when checking-in and exiting during the school day.
- Initiates emergency notification calls through radio, text message, and other means, including calling 911 and responding to incidents, when necessary.
- Observes public and private property areas and CCTV displays for suspicious/unusual/hazardous activities.
- Reports detected leaks or malfunctions of electrical, plumbing, heating, doors or other
- equipment and notifies appropriate departments of impaired equipment.
- Assists with traffic at fire, special events and other congested situations.
- Reports emergency medical situations, summoning the appropriate emergency services.
- Assists with security and facilitates movement of pedestrians and vehicles at campus functions.
JOB DUTIES
- Completes an official uniform inspection for each officer.
- Inspect equipment used by security officers in the routine performance of their duties, as needed, reports any broken, damaged, lost or stolen equipment to the HOS.
- Performs other administrative or security-related work on an as-needed basis.
- Provide performance feedback for each security officer.
- Answers multi-line telephones and dispatches security personnel via radio.
- Any additional duties, as assigned.
- EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Successfully completes LiveScan background screening, reference checks, and TB clearance.
- Minimum of 5 years of documented supervisory-level security experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills; bilingual English/French is a plus.
- Excellent customer service and support skills.
- Sufficient hearing to respond to normal verbal speech, alarm signals, and radio and telephone communications.
- Sufficient visual acuity to read and understand tenant rosters, post orders, computer screens, ID badges, and faces of employees, students, contractors and visitors.
- Competence in subordinates’ duties and tasks.
- Ability to write clearly and legibly.
- Ability to stand and/or sit for up to 90% of an 8- to 10-hour shift, or for up to 12 hours straight in order to meet operational needs of NCIS and the Schools.
- Demonstrated command of and ability to make oneself understood in the English language.
- Must complete all compliance training requirements.
- Experience working in proximity to children is also a plus.WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
- Works a variety of shifts, which may include nights and weekends.
- Works in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments, in all weather conditions.
- Effectively uses technology such as computers, iPads and smartphones.
- Ability to maintain composure, tact and professional demeanor when dealing with administrators, teachers, staff, students and any others under adverse conditions.
- Ability to challenge visitors or others who try to enter the premises without authorization.
- Close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to climb stairs, when necessary.
- Ability to reach with arms and hands, to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Ability to lift, push, pull or maneuver 40 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to handle and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to multi-task when necessary.
- Experience working in heavily trafficked, fast-paced campus or office environments will be favored in the hiring process.
Pay: $36.00 – $38.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 – 45.0 per week
