POSITION OVERVIEW
The Protective Services Safety Officer will assist the Protective Services Manager, with overseeing every aspect of safety, security, guest service and assisting in emergency preparedness for all guests, staff, volunteers, and property. Reporting to the Protective Services Manager, this is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position which will be paid based on the hours worked. This is a benefits eligible position.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitates the DoSeum Emergency Action plan following the safety and emergency response policies and procedures, for potential emergencies including but not limited to; fire, first aid, severe weather and power outages, lost/abandoned child, active shooter, suspicious persons, and property theft.
- Promotes an environment built around family and child-centered safety, courtesy, quality and efficiency while fostering a positive and fun workplace for all.
- Assists in training staff and volunteers to act decisively in emergency situations.
- Trains in the use of fire extinguishers, AEDs, CPR and First Aid as well as to be aware of their locations throughout the property.
- Assists the Protective Services Manager with inspections for AED’s and First Aid kits to ensure functionality and needed items are present.
- Trains within the 3 months of hire in FEMA IS-100.c, 230.d, 700.b, 200.c, 907.
- Patrols the internal and external facility as well as being visible to all guests, staff, and volunteers.
- Utilizes The DoSeum’s system for documenting and filing incident reports, which includes web-based and manual forms.
- Holds self and team accountable for exceptional guest service, mindful de-escalation and commitment to the LAST service recovery model.
- Learns and utilizes DoSeum shared language to promote inclusion and belonging.
- Greets all DoSeum guests in a friendly and professional manner, while delivering outstanding service to all.

MINIMUM QALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED
- Knowledge and understanding of public security/safety, NFPA Fire Code and Fire Standards emergency egress.
- Knowledge in First Aid and CPR.
- Able to respond to stressful situations and argumentative visitors.
- Knowledge in CCTV programs.
- Flexible schedule (must be able to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays, as events require)
- The ideal candidate is detail oriented and has excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft programs preferred
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
- Fluent in Spanish, including the ability to read, write, and communicate is highly desirable but not required.

- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
- Comfortable interacting with guests, volunteers, and staff of the Museum.
- Regularly required periods of physical activity, including moving briskly through the building, climbing ladders & stairs, and responding quickly to alarms and emergencies.
- Safety officer must be willing to work entire shift standing and in adverse weather conditions.
- Must be able to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Variable exposure to noise, weather, and elements.
