Pay: $19 – $21 per hour DOE

What We’re Looking For

Star Autism Academy is looking for a School Security and Campus Safety Officer to help keep our campus safe, welcoming, and student-centered. Our students have autism and other developmental, behavioral, communication, sensory, and medical support needs, so this role calls for someone who leads with patience, compassion, and sound judgment — not just vigilance. You’ll monitor the campus, manage access, support arrival and dismissal, and respond to safety concerns and emergencies alongside our school leadership and clinical staff.

What You’ll Do

• Maintain a visible, professional presence across campus and monitor entrances, exits, and grounds
• Manage visitor check-in and verify identity/purpose of anyone requesting access
• Support safe, calm arrival and dismissal, and monitor traffic and pickup/drop-off areas
• Ensure students are released only to authorized individuals per school procedures
• Watch for elopement risk and follow missing-student procedures
• Interact with students using patience, clear communication, and de-escalation — never intimidation or unnecessary physical contact
• Respond to medical emergencies, alarms, fires, and other incidents; follow lockdown, evacuation, and reunification protocols
• Report safety hazards, security concerns, and suspected abuse/neglect per policy and law
• Complete clear, factual incident documentation

What You’ll Need

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to pass criminal background, fingerprint, and reference checks
• Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification (or ability to obtain one)
• Strong communication skills, in person, in writing, and by radio
• Sound judgment and the ability to stay calm under pressure

Preferred: Experience in school, healthcare, behavioral health, or security settings; experience with individuals with autism or IDD; training in de-escalation or crisis prevention (CPI, trauma-informed care, etc.).

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand/walk for extended periods, move quickly in emergencies, and lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work outdoors in varying conditions.

This is an unarmed position. Physical force is never used for discipline and is limited to what’s necessary to address an immediate safety threat, per policy and completed Handle with Care training.

Pay: $19.00 – $21.00 per hour
