Join Penn Medicine Pennsylvania Hospital’s Security team and help maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff, and hospital assets. Security Officers provide campus-wide protection through patrols, incident response, safety monitoring, and customer service.


Position Summary

The Security Officer I is responsible for protecting hospital personnel, patients, visitors, students, and property. This role conducts security patrols, responds to incidents and emergencies, investigates security concerns, and promotes a safe environment across hospital facilities and grounds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol hospital buildings, grounds, and parking areas to ensure safety and security.
  • Monitor for unauthorized activity, security breaches, and fire/life safety hazards.
  • Respond to security incidents, emergencies, alarms, and hospital condition codes.
  • Investigate and document incidents, suspicious activity, and safety concerns.
  • Assist staff, patients, and visitors while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Complete activity logs, incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership and clinical teams during emergency situations.
  • Support crime prevention and security awareness initiatives.
  • Following required certifications, assist with de-escalation of volatile situations and other security interventions.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • ACT 235 Clearance or within six months of hire required.
  • BLS Certification or within six months of hire required.
  • De-escalation training (CPI or HWC) or within six months of hire required.
