The job duties are a blend of material handling and site security: S60
- Safety checks: Conduct daily safety inspections and pre-operation checks on hoisting machinery to ensure it is in safe working condition.
- Communication: Use radio communication to coordinate material delivery, pickups, and drop-offs with site personnel and supervisors.
- Record keeping: Update logs and records of materials/workers moved and equipment usage.
- Signal interpretation: Respond to hand, bell, buzzer, or whistle signals from other workers to regulate hoist speeds and positions.
Guard/Security Duties (S60 Specific)
- Secure premises: Monitor and guard entrances and exits to prevent unauthorized access, theft, and trespassing.
- Patrolling: Conduct vertical and perimeter patrols of the designated area to observe surroundings for suspicious activity or hazards.
- Emergency response: Be prepared to call the police or fire department in an emergency.
- Reporting: Write daily activity reports and document any irregularities, equipment damage, or unusual occurrences.
- Monitoring systems: Utilize CCTV and access control systems for monitoring the site.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Licensure: A valid hoist operator’s license is mandatory; some states and cities, like NYC, require specific licenses such as the S60 Certificate of Fitness for Fire Guard for Construction Sites. 8-16 Hour Security License
- Safety knowledge: Strong understanding and adherence to safety regulations and OSHA requirements.
- Technical aptitude: Mechanical skills for basic maintenance and operation of complex machinery.
- Alertness and coordination: Requires undivided focus, hand-eye-foot coordination, and the ability to pay attention to surroundings to avoid accidents.
- Communication skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with a team and report incidents.
- Physical stamina: Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks like standing for long periods, climbing, and lifting up to 25-50 pounds.
