Job Description

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Always practice Courtesy, Professionalism and Respect in every encounter with staff, patients, visitors and public.
  • Enforce rules and regulations of the Health and Hospital Corporation in an efficient manner.
  • Ensure all employees properly display their identification card when entering the facility. Verify the expiration date and if the ID has expired notify the Supervisor on duty immediately.
  • Makes periodic inspections tours throughout buildings and grounds to examine doors, windows, gates, locks and equipment.
  • Conduct safety patrols to include fire prevention, smoking violations, ward visitation restrictions and visitor’s hours, roof and ground floor alarm inspections in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Checks for trespassers, fires, leaks from water or steam lines, or any other causes which might result in property damage and/or loss.
  • Provide information and assistance to patients, staff and visitors.
  • Maintain a memo book and produce as requested by any uniformed Hospital Police supervisor, Chief of Hospital Police, Assistant Chief of Hospital Police or other competent authority.
  • Monitor portable radio and conduct tests to ensure radio system is operating correctly.
  • Provide a safe environment for staff, visitors and patients by controlling pedestrian and vehicular flow on hospital premise.
  • Respond to emergencies as directed by the Supervising Special Officers.
  • Report suspicious and dangerous activities to the Commander-in-Charge of the tour.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Work extended hours when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A valid New York State Security Guard registration card issued by the Department of State; and

2. Satisfactory completion of a 16-hour On-the-Job Training (OJT) course within 90 days of employment.
