The Position

New 42 seeks a Front Desk Attendant / FLSD, who will join an experienced team to provide superior customer service as the first impression of the organization in the New 42 Studios building and on occasion, the New Victory Theater. They will also work closely with the Associate Director, Studio Operations to ensure all building protocols are followed while maintaining a secure environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Maintaining a professional demeanor at all times:

  • Exhibit the highest level of customer service while assisting staff, renters, tenants, visitors and guests
  • Maintain building security and conduct screenings to ensure that only authorized persons enter buildings
  • Answer phones, accept deliveries, including mail, and maintain related logs
  • Maintain a visible presence in lobbies and perform required patrols
  • Enforce building policies and procedures within the scope of the position and promptly escalate matters that require supervisory review or intervention
  • Monitor alarms and systems
  • Monitor the environment and security cameras, with the keen ability to detect suspicious and unsafe activity
  • Prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities
  • Conduct fire and life safety related duties and enforce compliance with all safety policies and procedures as required by FDNY and New 42
  • Learn and follow established emergency action plans and procedures
  • Essential duties and responsibilities may differ by building

Essential Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • 3 years relevant experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must have a valid New York State Security Guard License
  • Must have F-89 Fire and Life Safety Director (FLSD) certification or be able to obtain one within 60 days of hire
  • English language fluency
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort with technology and digital tools such as Google and/or Microsoft suites, tablets or other building entry systems
  • Interest in, or knowledge of the performing arts, arts education, or other arts and culture forms a plus

Physical Demands & Working Environment

  • Regular schedule includes evenings and weekends
  • Must be able to work some holidays
  • Ability to stand and be mobile for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
