Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Gateman to join our construction and civil infrastructure team. In this vital role, you will be the first point of contact at construction sites, ensuring the safety and security of personnel, equipment, and materials. Your presence helps maintain smooth operations by controlling access, monitoring site activity, and supporting overall site safety protocols. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to large-scale roadway and highway maintenance projects, working outdoors in dynamic environments that demand alertness and professionalism.
Duties
- Manage access points by verifying credentials of workers, visitors, contractors, and delivery personnel to ensure authorized entry.
- Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles entering and exiting the site, including dump trucks, front loader trucks, and heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, and other machinery.
- Monitor site activity through CCTV surveillance and perform visual inspections to uphold safety standards and prevent unauthorized access or theft.
- Assist with traffic control in work zones by setting up signage, directing vehicle flow, and ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations.
- Support heavy equipment operation when needed by assisting with basic mechanical tasks or hand tool usage during roadway construction or paving activities.
- Maintain accurate logs of site activity, vehicle movements, safety incidents, and shift reports to ensure clear communication among team members.
- Support safety protocols by enforcing personal protective equipment (PPE) use and assisting in emergency response procedures.
Qualifications
- Prior experience working on construction sites or civil infrastructure projects involving road construction or highway maintenance.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment operation including dozer, loader, backhoe, grader, power tools, welding tools, utility locating devices, and front loader trucks.
- Familiarity with FMCSA regulations related to commercial truck driving and transportation safety standards.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and manual handling tasks safely in outdoor environments.
- Mechanical knowledge related to construction machinery maintenance or troubleshooting is a plus.
- Strong understanding of traffic control procedures for work zones and roadway safety practices.
- Excellent outdoor work experience with the ability to adapt to varying weather conditions.
- Skilled in using hand tools and power tools for minor repairs or site setup activities.
- Valid driver’s license with experience operating heavy vehicles such as dump trucks or similar equipment preferred.

Pay: $19.00 – $20.00 per hour
