Security Officer

Job Summary

As a Security Officer, you’ll help protect people, property, and facilities through attentive surveillance, access control, and regular patrols. You’ll respond calmly to incidents, follow emergency response procedures, and provide professional customer service to employees and visitors. The role may involve standing, walking, and heavy lifting; follow site procedures for manual handling and physical security tasks.

Responsibilities

• Monitor assigned areas, operate access control systems, verify authorization, and conduct patrols to identify and report security concerns.
• Respond to emergencies, apply conflict de-escalation and conflict management techniques, and use first aid, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), and AED (automated external defibrillator) procedures when trained and authorized.
• Write clear incident reports, follow compliance with security regulations, and support background checks as assigned.
• Your impact: By identifying concerns early and responding consistently, you help protect people on site and support a safer environment for visitors and staff.
• Handle equipment, including a Taser or firearm, only when authorized, trained, and permitted by applicable law and site policy.

Experience

• Required: Strong communication, sound judgment, customer service skills, and the ability to follow security procedures and complete accurate reports.
• Preferred: Experience in security, surveillance, patrolling, access control, emergency response, or law enforcement; military experience is also relevant.
• First aid and CPR, AED operation, Taser, or firearm-handling qualifications are preferred where relevant and legally permitted; training and authorization requirements vary by role.
• Ability to perform manual handling and heavy lifting safely; familiarity with incident report writing and background checks is an asset.

Pay: $23.47 – $38.27 per hour

Expected hours: 26.0 per week
