Job Description
The FWCD Security Officer is the front line of protecting the school community and managing risk in a manner respectful of the school core values, culture and climate. The officer helps to provide an environment that ensures the student’s safety and supports the school’s mission. The FWCD Security Officer reports directly to the Director and/or the Assistant Director of Security and Safety.
We are seeking a dependable, caring, and community-minded individual to join our team as a Part-Time School Security Officer. This is an as-needed position with flexible scheduling, ideal for someone seeking supplemental income while balancing family, school and other commitments. We need Part-Time officers to assist us during large events and when a full-time officer is off.
The Security Officer is responsible for delivering essential security services while upholding the duties and privileges inherent to the position. This role ensures the safety and security of the campus through regular patrols, traffic regulation, and the protection of the rights and property of students, faculty, staff, and the broader FWCD community. Security Officers are expected to maintain the highest standards of professionalism at all times. As representatives of the community and role models for students, they must present themselves with integrity, respect, and accountability. A neat and clean appearance is required, and adherence to the school’s dress code and grooming standards is mandatory.
This role is perfect for someone who values building positive relationships with students, supporting a safe and welcoming school environment, and serving as a calm, reassuring presence on campus. Individuals with backgrounds in caregiving, education, community service, youth programs, or customer service are especially encouraged to apply.
Duties and Responsibilities
a. Patrolling of the campus-The primary duty of the security officer is to provide a sense of “presence.” Ideally, the officer’s mere presence on the campus of FWCD should deter persons from violating the rules, causing injury to others and loss of property. Therefore, it is very important for each officer to project an air of authority by their dress, manner and professionalism while fulfilling their duties.
b. Campus Access-To assist with the orderly flow of traffic on and off campus. This may be during the beginning of school, the end of school, or during special events. Officers will ensure that every person attempting to enter the campus is a registered family or employee of the school by verification of registered vehicle use or verification of identification from non-registered vehicles.
c. Building Access-The security officers control the access to buildings. Officers help maintain a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for students, staff, and visitors. They will also conduct checks and secure doors for sensitive and secure areas at various time throughout the day.
d. Issuance of parking stickers-The security department issues parking stickers and maintains a list of sticker numbers so that the owners of vehicles may be easily and quickly identified.
e. Investigations-When situations develop on campus that is a violation of the law, a dangerous act, or a violation of the rules of FWCD; it should be brought to the attention of the security officer. The officer should conduct the actual preliminary investigation by collecting facts leading to the identification of the responsible party as well as any lost/damaged property. The security director will conduct the follow-up investigation.
f. Medical emergencies-Although the school has two trainers and a nurse on staff, the security officer may be needed to stabilize a student, faculty/staff member, parent or visitor. The security officer should know the basics of first, CPR, and AED usage. CPR & AED training is available through the school and will be required of all security officers within 12 months on the job.
g. Information-Security officers spend much of their time dispensing information and giving directions. They must be courteous and well-informed. This information may include but is not limited to:
1. Weather related information
2. Athletic information
3. Special events
4. Directions
5. Parking
h. Emergency responses-FWCD has emergency procedures to deal with an assortment of emergencies. These procedures are located in the FWCD manual. The security officer should have a working knowledge of these procedures.
i. Safety Prevention-The security department is the only department that operates 24 hours a day. During a security officer’s shift, he/she may come upon a potential safety hazard. The security officer must use common sense and take steps to prevent injuries and eliminate the hazard. If the security officer is not sure how to deal with the situation, the Plant Operations department or the Security Director can/should be contacted.
j. Facilities/Structure Patrol-As mentioned above, the security department is the only department that operates on a 24-hour basis. During a security officer’s shift, he/she may come upon a structure or facility that may need repairing or is not functioning properly. It will be the security officer’s responsibility to stabilize the situation and if immediate attention is needed, the Plant Operations Director will be contacted. If the situation is not of an immediate necessity, a maintenance work order will be filled out and placed in the Plant Operations director box, outside his door.
k. Violations of vehicle/parking regulations-The school, through the student-parent handbooks or administration permission-has established regulations concerning the flow of traffic and the parking of vehicles. The security officer will enforce, by voluntary compliance, the traffic and parking rules that FWCD has established. The security officer may issue a verbal warning or make a written report for more serious violations of safety concerns for repeat offenses. Have a working knowledge of the FWCD employee manual the security department’s Standard Operating Procedures as well as adhere to them.
l. Visitor Management-The school is a private institution and only allows visitors, deliveries and contractors that are authorized to enter. Officers will verify that the visitor is authorized to enter campus and run their driver’s license or id through the Raptor visitor management system that compares them to the national sex offender registry. This ensures that visitor attempting to make entry to the school are not registered offenders in an attempt to keep the community safe.
m. Special Events-Officers are required to work during large special events such as varsity football games, carnivals, graduation, college fair, and other designated events. Officers will not be authorized to take off during special events without proper consideration.
Physical Requirements
No prior security experience required. We are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and a genuine interest in supporting and caring for students. Must be able to pass background check and any required clearances. Must be a self-starter, mature, reliable, and need little supervision. This position requires the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment, often managing multiple events occurring simultaneously across campus.
No person will be considered/called for an interview without a resume. Those applicants that are viewed as viable by the security director and supervisors will be called for an interview.
