Job Description

LEAD SECURITY OFFICER
The Lead Security Officer supports the safety and security of The Legacy Senior Communities by performing all core security duties while also serving as the primary day‑to‑day support to the Security Manager. This role provides guidance to the security team during assigned shifts, ensures adherence to established policies and procedures, and delivers exceptional resident‑facing service. The Lead Security Officer works collaboratively with residents, team members, visitors, and outside vendors to uphold a safe, welcoming, and well‑monitored environment across the campus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Security Operations
  • Performs regular patrols of buildings, grounds, and parking areas to ensure safety and security.
  • Locks and unlocks designated doors campus‑wide as scheduled.
  • Monitors security cameras, gate entrances, fire alarm systems, emergency response systems, and other monitoring equipment.
  • Responds promptly to emergency calls, including medical, safety, and security events; coordinates with internal staff and first responders as needed.
  • Answers call boxes, screens visitors, and operates electronic doors in accordance with established protocols.
  • Conducts ID checks for visitors, vendors, and contractors entering the campus.
  • Approaches and engages unidentified or unauthorized individuals on campus in a professional and safe manner.
  • Provides security presence at designated events, special programs, or busy periods.
  • Writes incident reports, daily activity logs, and other required documentation with accuracy and clarity.
  • Operates radios, telephones, and communication devices with proper protocol.
  • Assists residents, family members, and team members with safety and security concerns, questions, and escort needs.
  • Performs other related security duties as assigned.
Leadership & Support Responsibilities
  • Serves as the lead point of contact during assigned shifts, providing guidance, support, and direction to security officers as needed.
  • Assists the Security Manager with coordinating daily assignments, shift priorities, and deployment of personnel.
  • Provides on‑shift coaching, ensures adherence to policies and procedures, and acts as a resource for problem‑solving.
  • Supports training for new security team members on procedures, patrol expectations, documentation standards, and resident‑service protocols.
  • Assists in reviewing incident reports for completeness and accuracy before submitting to the Security Manager.
  • Provides feedback to the Security Manager regarding team performance, campus safety concerns, and operational improvement opportunities.
  • Helps coordinate coverage during call‑offs, emergencies, or unusually busy periods.
  • Serves as acting lead in the absence of the Security Manager.
Resident & Customer Service
  • Maintains a calm, courteous, and service‑oriented presence at all times.
  • Assists residents and family members with security‑related inquiries, safety escorts, and general support.
  • Provides directions, information, and customer service to visitors, vendors, and guests.
  • Supports a resident‑first culture that aligns with community values of civility, belonging, and positivity.
Safety Responsibilities
  • Monitors the campus for environmental hazards, unsafe conditions, illegal activity, or signs of vandalism; reports or addresses concerns per policy.
  • Completes safety checks, hazard reporting, and follow‑up as required.
  • Conducts interviews or gathers information related to incidents when necessary (in person or by phone).
  • Maintains current CPR/AED and basic first aid knowledge (training recommended but not required).
  • Completes required safety training, including online, in‑house, and off‑site coursework.
  • Reports general maintenance problems or safety issues to the appropriate departments.
  • Performs additional safety duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Lead Security Officer provides functional guidance, shift support, and task direction to other security officers and serves as the primary on‑shift resource for questions, problem resolution, and procedure adherence.

Educational Requirements and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Security professional and/or experience required.
  • Experience with a multi-line phone system.
  • Experience with monitoring cameras.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Language Ability:
    • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speaking the primary language of the residents.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Mathematical Skills:
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Cognitive Demands:
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer Skills:
    • Basic Computer knowledge – ability to use Microsoft Windows.
    • Ability to use the Internet.
  • Competencies:
    • Excellent telephone communication skills.
    • Ability to operate general office equipment.
    • Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY

  • Works indoors in a climate controlled setting
  • Possible exposure to unpleasant odors
  • Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MSDS Manual
  • Continuous exposure to residents who are ill, confused, irritable and irrational
