Job Description

Position Title: Safe Passage Community Watcher
Department: Violence Intervention & Prevention Services (VIPS)
Reports to: Senior Program Manager CDPH NL


Position Objective and Summary:

The Community Watcher is posted on community streets and intersections to provide safe passage for students. Students and families are engaged to increase safety to and from school and to essentially improve student attendance, which may lead to increased academic achievement.


DOES NOT AFFECT: PUBLIC HOUSING/ SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS/ MEDICAID OR RETIREMENT INCOME


Essential Functions and Responsibilities
:

  • Conduct daily monitoring of streets and intersections around community schools.
  • Ensure safety of students by identifying potential conflicts and working collaboratively with community resource networks to diffuse situations.
  • Support student attendance by encouraging them to attend daily and support their families by ensuring a safe passage.
  • Build relationships with community residents by increasing their awareness of the safe- passage program and engaging them whenever possible.
  • Act as Mandated Reporter.

Professional Development

  • Attends regular supervision, team meetings, required training, and other professional workshops to enhance job skills.
  • Sets annual developmental goals with supervisor to meet learning needs and interests, while also enhancing job performance and skills.
  • Performs other related tasks as required or assigned.


Education /Job Experience/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid government issued identification.


Special Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of North Lawndale Community resources preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be vaccinated.

Work Environment: This position requires work off-site and, in the community. This position requires evening and weekend work hours. COVID VACCINATION IS REQUIRED.
