School Security Officer

Job Summary

We are seeking a vigilant and dedicated School Security Officer to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and school property. In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for maintaining a secure environment through proactive surveillance, access control, emergency response, and conflict management. Duties

• Monitor school premises using CCTV systems and conduct regular patrols to identify potential security risks or breaches
• Control access points by verifying identities and performing background checks on visitors, contractors, and staff members
• Respond swiftly to emergencies by executing established procedures for fire alarms, medical incidents, or security threats
• Write detailed incident reports documenting any security issues, disturbances, or safety concerns
• Perform manual handling tasks such as heavy lifting during equipment setup or emergency situations while maintaining safety protocols
• De-escalate conflicts using conflict management techniques and ensure a calm environment for students and staff
• Operate security equipment including access control systems, Taser devices, AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators), firearms (where legally permitted), and CCTV cameras in accordance with regulations
• Conduct routine patrols of school grounds, including hallways, entrances, parking lots, and playgrounds to maintain physical security
• Assist in performing background checks on new staff or volunteers to ensure compliance with school policies and legal standards
• Support emergency response procedures by providing first aid or CPR when necessary and coordinating with local emergency services

Experience

• Prior experience in security roles within educational institutions, military service, law enforcement agencies, or similar environments is highly desirable
• Demonstrated knowledge of surveillance techniques including CCTV operation and monitoring systems
• Training or certification in first aid, CPR, AED operation, firearm handling (where applicable), Taser use, and conflict de-escalation methods
• Familiarity with manual handling procedures and heavy lifting safety protocols
• Proven ability to write clear incident reports and maintain detailed security logs
• Experience performing background checks and managing access control systems effectively
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate professionally with students, staff, visitors, and law enforcement personnel

Pay: $25.23 – $30.38 per hour
