Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and professional Base Operator to join our in-house security team at the prestigious 900 N. Michigan Avenue property. This is a unique, full-time opportunity to work within a high-profile, mixed-use building encompassing over 750,000 sq. ft. of office and retail space, as well as a 12-level self-park garage.

Our Base Operator plays a vital role by maintaining centralized monitoring, dispatch, and coordination of building operations in support of the safety and security of all individuals and assets on site.

This is an unarmed position that requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Current opening is available on the afternoon shift (2nd), Thursday-Monday, 4:00 PM-12:00 AM.

Please note that overtime is a mandatory requirement, so ideal candidates will have the flexibility to assist with shift coverage as needed based on operational demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the central point of communication for all building-related security and operational matters.
  • Monitor and respond to life safety systems, including fire alarms, access control systems, CCTV, and emergency communication systems.
  • Dispatch security and building personnel in response to alarms, incidents, and service requests.
  • Coordinate emergency response with local police, fire, and medical services, as well as internal building teams.
  • Monitor security systems for irregular activity, including stairwell doors, elevator and emergency intercoms, and duress alarms.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs of activity, incidents, and communications.
  • Issue and track building access credentials, including visitor, vendor, and contractor passes.
  • Coordinate dock access and manage delivery and contractor entry in accordance with building procedures.
  • Answer incoming calls and provide assistance, direction, or escalation as needed.
  • Keep supervisors and management informed of incidents, emergencies, equipment issues, or operational concerns.
  • Support general security operations and assist tenants, guests, and staff with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support building operations.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
  • Prior experience in security operations, dispatch, or monitoring systems strongly preferred.
  • Experience with CCTV, alarm monitoring, or building management systems is a plus.
  • High attention to detail with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong conflict management skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Proficiency in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing effectively in a control room environment.
  • Excellent observational skills with attention to detail during surveillance and patrols.
  • Professional demeanor and customer service mindset.
