We are recruiting Street Safety Officers to support the Brixton Safe Hub, based on Windrush Square. The hub is designed to deter crime and provide a safe, reassuring space for the public. You will work alongside partner organisations on site, including police officers, street pastors and volunteers, offering guidance, reassurance and practical support.
This is a public-facing role, outdoors, working with a wide range of people including young people, night-time economy visitors and vulnerable individuals. You will be expected to use sound judgement and signpost or refer people to the appropriate agencies where needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide a visible, proactive safety presence at the Brixton Safe Hub on Windrush Square
- Offer calm, confident reassurance and customer service to the public
- Identify concerns early and escalate appropriately to police or the project supervisors
- Support engagement with vulnerable people and signpost to services where appropriate
- Complete hub set-up and pack-down each shift (gazebo, tables, signage, lighting and related kit)
- Move equipment between storage and the hub location (secure container near Pop Brixton, approx. 10 to 15 minutes on foot, trolley provided)
- Record interactions and incidents accurately using Strata on a tablet
- Contribute to weekly reporting, ensuring all relevant activity is captured
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid SIA licence (Door Supervision or Security Guarding)
- Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check (you may start while the application is being processed)
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Good judgement, calm under pressure, and confident dealing with a range of situations
- Good report writing and accuracy with data entry
- Physically able to work outdoors and complete set-up/pack-down tasks
- Able to pass vetting covering the last 5 years (or since leaving compulsory education)
DESIRABLE:
- Experience in a public-facing security or street-based role
- Experience working alongside police, outreach, or community safety partners
- Conflict management and de-escalation experience
