Premises Officer

We’re looking for a Premises Officer to join our Lewisham PFI Schools team based in Lewisham.

Location: Lewisham PFI Schools, Lewisham
Hours: 40 hours per week Monday- Friday

The Premises Officer plays a vital role in supporting the optimal functioning and safety of school premises. This position requires proactive management of tasks, rapid response to issues, and effective coordination of maintenance activities. You’ll assist in the day-to-day delivery of the Authority Requirements as per the PFI contract for the assigned school, while adhering to health and safety regulations and fostering a culture of environmental sustainability.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Premises Officer, you’ll be working within the Lewisham PFI Schools team, supporting them in maintaining safe, functional, and welcoming school environments. Your day to day will include:

• Taking responsibility for maintenance and upkeep of premises, including buildings, fixtures, and furniture, conducting regular quality checks to ensure high standards
• Performing minor repairs such as replacing light fixtures, fixing leaky faucets, patching walls, and repairing door hardware, while reporting major repairs to the Premises Manager
• Maintaining a safe and healthy environment by identifying hazards, ensuring fire precautions are in place, and clearing ice and snow as needed
• Supporting school staff with porterage tasks including furniture moving, large display mounting, and moving delivered parcels to appropriate areas
• Ensuring security of the premises by opening and locking gates and doors, patrolling the site regularly, and addressing unauthorised access according to school procedures

This role of Premises Officer is great for you if:

• You have demonstrable experience in premises management, facilities maintenance, or a related field
• You possess a strong understanding of health and safety regulations with the ability to identify potential hazards and implement appropriate measures
• You have effective communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to work collaboratively with school staff and external contractors
• You’re proficient in performing routine maintenance tasks, minor repairs, and general upkeep to ensure a safe and functional environment
• You’re flexible and able to prioritise tasks effectively under pressure, with willingness to work outside regular hours and respond to emergencies as needed
