Central Services Directorate Security is the division within the Bank that mitigates risks to the Bank’s property, infrastructure, people, services or assets being compromised, harmed, damaged, stolen or disrupted either by external actors and or people exploiting their access to Bank assets or premisses.

The Security Vetting Team is responsible for investigating and deciding National Security vetting decisions, aftercare, and providing vetting and personnel security advice within the Bank.

As a vetting officer you will be part of a small highly experienced team of vetting professionals. The team consists of approximately four other vetting offers, a vetting manger to whom you will directly report to, and the Banks Head of Security Vetting.

We are looking for highly motivated and well-organised self-starter to join our team. You will be working in a dynamic environment, playing an active role in delivering security vetting decisions and aftercare.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • The timely processing and launching of national security clearance into UK Security Vetting (UKSV), providing support and advice to colleagues to navigate these processes.
  • Responsibility for reviewing the outcome of the Banks overseas vetting checks and the results from UKSV’s national security checks.
  • Making further enquiries and conducting information gathering interviews to inform vetting decisions where appropriate.
  • Supporting the investigation of and making recommendations on more complex vetting decisions, which also provides valuable on the job development of your skills and knowledge.
  • Briefing people on security vulnerabilities and good security behaviours that support a security risk being managed in post as part of the aftercare process.
  • Enhancing your knowledge and skills and to work collaboratively with staff and partners across the Bank and in wider government.
  • Securely handling highly sensitive and personal details in line with data protection rules, as well as when interacting with applicants to take into account the sensitive nature of the information being shared.
  • Providing security advice and direction to your team members
  • Working proactively with colleagues across the Bank of England, in particularly our security community and People Directorate.

This role is highly suited to a person who can make risk-based decisions, has strong interpersonal skills to conduct investigations and briefings in a sensitive way and who has good report writing and analytical skills to draft risk assessments, document recommendations and decisions.

Role requirements:

Minimum Criteria

  • Experience of making security vetting decisions, preferably (but not essentially) with the UK’s national security vetting, and or experience of working in an investigative caseworker role.
  • Prior experience of interviewing and particularly investigative interviewing

Compensation and Perks Details:

Salary: £33,600 – £37,800 per annum.

In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below:

  • The pension is non-contributory and based on a career average, providing a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/80th of your annual salary for each year worked. You can choose to increase the pension to 1/65th or reduce it to 1/105th by adjusting your salary through the flexible benefits program annually. The Bank may change standard accrual rates and adjust or remove these options at any time.
  • A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool.
  • An 8% benefits allowance that can be taken as salary or used to acquire a broad selection of flexible benefits.
  • 26 days’ annual leave with option to buy up to 12 additional days through flexible benefits.

National Security Clearance Procedure

Employment in this position requires passing the National Security Vetting clearance process, which usually takes 6 to 12 weeks after the offer. Additional Bank security checks must also be cleared according to Bank policy. The successful applicant will receive more details about the vetting and security clearance requirements.
