Join our team at the Hampton Inn by Hilton Calgary Downtown! We are seeking a reliable, alert, and professional Overnight Security team member to help ensure the safety and security of our guests, team members, and hotel property throughout the overnight hours.
The Overnight Security team member plays an important role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment while supporting overnight hotel operations. We are looking for someone who is calm under pressure, observant, responsible, and able to respond appropriately to a variety of situations while providing excellent guest service.
Key Responsibilities
As the Overnight Security team member, you will report directly to the Front Office Supervisor/Manager. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment throughout the hotel during overnight hours while supporting guests and hotel operations.
Security and Safety Operations
- Conduct regular patrols and walkthroughs of the hotel, including guest floors, lobby, entrances, parking areas, stairwells, and other designated areas.
- Monitor hotel security systems, surveillance cameras, alarms, and access points in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintain awareness of activity throughout the hotel and identify unusual, suspicious, or potentially unsafe situations.
- Ensure exterior and interior doors are properly secured during overnight hours.
- Monitor and control access to restricted areas of the hotel.
- Respond promptly and professionally to security concerns, disturbances, unauthorized access, or other incidents.
- Complete regular security checks and document observations accurately.
- Maintain detailed and accurate security logs, incident reports, and shift pass-down information.
- Report safety hazards, maintenance concerns, suspicious activity, or security issues to the appropriate manager.
- Assist with emergency procedures, including fire alarms, medical emergencies, power outages, evacuations, and other emergency situations.
- Follow all hotel emergency response procedures and cooperate with emergency services when required.
Guest Service
- Maintain a visible and professional presence throughout the hotel while ensuring guests feel safe and welcome.
- Respond to guest questions and requests in a friendly, respectful, and professional manner.
- Assist guests with basic needs during overnight hours and direct them to the appropriate hotel department when necessary.
- Respond appropriately to noise complaints and disturbances while maintaining a calm and courteous approach.
- Assist with guest concerns and escalate issues to management when appropriate.
- Protect guest privacy and maintain confidentiality when handling guest information.
- Provide assistance to guests during emergencies or unusual situations.
- Maintain a professional approach when dealing with difficult or potentially challenging situations.
Overnight Operations
- Support the Front Desk team with overnight operational needs when required.
- Assist with luggage, guest requests, or other hotel duties when appropriate and within established procedures.
- Monitor lobby and common areas to ensure they remain clean, orderly, and secure.
- Complete scheduled overnight inspections and ensure any concerns are communicated during shift pass-down.
- Maintain clear and concise communication with the Front Desk and management team.
- Ensure all incidents and significant guest interactions are properly documented.
- Complete end-of-shift reports and provide thorough pass-down information to the incoming team.
Guest Satisfaction
- Maintain a friendly, professional, and service-focused attitude throughout the overnight shift.
- Treat all guests with respect, courtesy, and professionalism.
- Handle guest concerns calmly and attempt to resolve issues within the scope of the position.
- Escalate serious complaints, safety concerns, or security incidents to management promptly.
- Support the hotel’s commitment to providing a safe, comfortable, and positive guest experience.
Team Development
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive team environment by working cooperatively with Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance, and Management.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and hotel safety programs as required.
- Communicate relevant guest, safety, maintenance, and security information to team members and supervisors.
- Support new team members by sharing knowledge of overnight procedures and hotel safety practices when appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to maintain smooth overnight operations.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow all hotel policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Follow Hilton brand standards and applicable local/provincial regulations.
- Maintain secure handling of guest information and confidential hotel records.
- Protect guest privacy and personal information at all times.
- Follow established procedures for handling lost and found items.
- Respond appropriately to fire alarms, medical emergencies, security incidents, and other emergency situations.
- Contact emergency services when required and provide appropriate assistance until emergency responders arrive.
- Complete incident reports accurately and promptly.
- Report unsafe conditions, hazards, damaged equipment, or maintenance concerns to management.
- Never place yourself, guests, or team members at unnecessary risk when responding to an incident.
- Maintain a professional and respectful approach when dealing with guests, visitors, contractors, and team members.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with special projects or administrative duties assigned by the management team.
- Support Front Desk operations during periods of high activity when required.
- Assist with overnight hotel operations and guest requests as needed.
- Maintain awareness of hotel activity throughout the entire shift.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the overall success and operational needs of the hotel.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in security, loss prevention, hospitality, customer service, or hotel operations is preferred but not required.
- Previous overnight or night-shift experience is considered an asset.
- Valid Alberta Security Service Worker Licence is required.
- Successful completion of an approved Alberta security training course and provincial security examination is required.
- Must meet and maintain all applicable Government of Alberta requirements to work as a security service worker.
- First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office are preferred.
- Experience with security monitoring systems, surveillance cameras, access-control systems, or incident reporting is considered an asset.

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand and remain on their feet for extended periods of time during shifts.
- Must be able to walk and conduct regular patrols throughout the hotel and property.
- Must be able to climb stairs and access different areas of the hotel as required.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 lbs. as needed.
- Must be able to respond quickly and safely to emergency situations.
- Ability to perform duties in a variety of environments, including indoor and outdoor areas.

Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
