Contract Position Overview
Barry Enterprises Protection & Security Services is seeking a Full-Time Overnight High-Risk Retail Security Specialist for one of our busiest retail locations.
This is a hands-on position requiring officers who are confident, physically capable, and comfortable engaging directly with members of the public, individuals involved in criminal activity, and persons experiencing addiction or mental health challenges.
You will be expected to make sound decisions under pressure, remain calm during volatile situations, and work closely with Calgary Police Service (CPS), EMS, and store management.
Professionalism, confidence, and accountability are non-negotiable.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct continuous interior and exterior patrols throughout the property.
Actively deter theft, shoplifting, vandalism, break-ins, and other criminal activity.
Approach suspicious individuals professionally to investigate suspicious behaviour and enforce client policies.
Issue trespass notices and lawfully remove unauthorized individuals from the property when required.
Escort disruptive, intoxicated, or trespassed individuals from the premises using approved procedures and only reasonable force when legally authorized and necessary.
Conduct lawful citizen’s arrests when appropriate and authorized under Canadian law and company policy.
Respond to disturbances, aggressive behaviour, assaults, thefts, medical emergencies, overdoses, and other critical incidents.
Work closely with Calgary Police Service, EMS, Calgary Fire Department, and other emergency responders during investigations and emergencies.
Interact respectfully and professionally with individuals experiencing addiction, homelessness, or mental health challenges while utilizing de-escalation techniques whenever possible.
Monitor high-risk areas, loading docks, entrances, emergency exits, and parking lots.
Complete thorough, accurate, and time-stamped reports documenting all incidents, arrests, trespasses, use-of-force incidents, and daily activities.
Maintain constant radio communication with supervisors and client representatives.
Provide a highly visible, professional presence that deters criminal activity before it occurs.

Contract Terms
This is a full-time independent contractor position, primarily consisting of overnight shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays as required by client operations.
Contractors are expected to maintain the highest professional standards while performing services in accordance with Barry Enterprises Protection & Security Services’ policies, client expectations, and all applicable laws.
