Overview
The Senior Security Officer performs and directs security work to guard and protect municipal employees and property from health, safety, and fire hazards or physical harm
Essential Functions
1 Assists in the daily security operation for city facilities to ensure security procedures are met, safety of employees, and protection of city buildings, equipment and other property; responds to, investigates, and documents violations, incidents, and information which requires a security response or action.
2 Maintains time and prepares daily schedule for lower level security officers; provides extensive training and professional development to ensure quality of security officers and other security staff.
3 Completes necessary administrative tasks to adequately document administrative functions including payroll, incident reports, and detail assignments.
4 Makes daily assignments for fixed security posts and officers to special detail; performs driving security duties for City Council Members, the City Manager, and other City Officials.
5 Calculates the number of officers needed in order to provide effective security coverage for city facilities.
6 Issues traffic and non-traffic citations to violators in order to enforce city ordinances, codes, or laws; assists local law enforcement with detaining and other security tasks.
7 Responds to telephone calls and walk-in inquiries pertaining to lost property or gives general information to individuals using city facilities; participates in emergency situations, renders basic first aid, and assists law enforcement where needed.
8 Evaluates the effectiveness of the security goals, policies and procedures and makes recommendations to upper management.
9 Performs on-site inspections of officers engaged in security work to ensure that all procedures for given assignments are met.
10 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Ability to use fire arms properly.
2 Ability to interact with a multi-ethnic population and workforce.
3 Basic knowledge of the laws and regulations of the State of Texas.
4 Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
5 Ability to use good judgment, discretion, tact and to act quickly in an emergency.
6 Communicating effectively and clearly verbally and in writing.
7 Handling and subduing irate or problematic citizens and keeping peace.
8 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
9 Ability to pass the educational, physical and emotional requirements, and training standards for a Peace Officer in Texas.

Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Must be able to obtain Level II & III Security Commission Certifications issued by the Private Security Bureau of the Texas Department of Public Safety within probationary period.

Must pass the Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) security awareness exam within probationary period.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
-
Must pass intensive background investigation, physical, eye exam, polygraph, psychological exams, as well as drug and alcohol testing.

No FELONY convictions.
-
No Class A MISDEMEANOR convictions within the last five (5) years.
-
Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.

Must be able available to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.

Must be able to walk extensively, bend, carry and lift in excess of fifty (50) pounds.

Subject to inclement weather.
Salary Range
$24.39 – $27.71
The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
