Location: Downtown Los Angeles. Multiple shelter sites
Status: Part Time
Schedule: Day, evening, overnight, weekend shifts available

Position Overview

Security provides on site supervision and safety oversight within a 24-hour Interim Housing shelter environment. This role is essential to maintaining safety, structure, and accountability for both participants and staff.

This is an active role that requires consistent presence, situational awareness, and professionalism. Individuals who are unreliable, frequently late, or uncomfortable enforcing rules are not a good fit for this position.

This is a part-time, as needed position.

Essential Responsibilities

• Maintain safety and security within the shelter at all times
• Monitor participant behavior and enforce shelter rules consistently
• Conduct regular walkthroughs and security checks
• Respond to incidents and escalate concerns according to protocol
• Complete shift logs and incident reports accurately and on time
• Communicate clearly with CES staff, supervisors, and leadership
• Support emergency response when required

Required Qualifications

• Prior experience in shelter monitoring, security, or similar environments preferred
• Strong attendance and reliability required
• Ability to stay alert and engaged during assigned shifts
• Ability to de-escalate situations calmly and professionally
• Willingness to follow post orders and supervision

Important Expectations

• This role is not observational only. Active engagement is required.
• Consistent attendance and punctuality are mandatory.
• Failure to follow post orders or procedures will result in separation.

Compensation

• Hourly rate competitive for the Los Angeles shelter and security market
• Paid training provided
• Opportunities for additional hours based on performance

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
