Job Description

Job Title: Campus Safety Supervisor (2IC)

Location: London South Bank University (LSBU) – All Campuses

Reports To: Duty Shift Manager (DSM)

Contract Type: 48hrs pw average, Full-time, Permanent

Hours: Shift-based 28 day rolling rotation including 8hrs & 12hrs shifts, days, nights and weekends.

Shifts:
Week 1 Mon-Fri 06:00-14:00;

Week 2 Mon-Fri 14:00-22:00;

Week 3 Mon-Sun 20:00-08:00

Week 4 Sat-Sun 08:00-20:00

Pay Rate: £13.93 per hour

Job Purpose

To support the Campus Safety Team Leader in delivering a safe, secure, and welcoming environment across LSBU campuses. Acting as second-in-command (2IC), the Campus Safety Supervisor ensures operational excellence, team welfare, and service delivery standards are upheld. This role blends security leadership with guest services, ensuring a visible and professional presence that enhances the student and visitor experience.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

Assist in the deployment and supervision of the campus safety team, ensuring consistent coverage and adherence to LSBU and SIA policies.

Act as shift lead when required, including managing control room operations and mobile response duties.

To be responsible for the key safe & register in the Security Control room and to carry out regular key audits as required.

To effectively task and deploy the Mobile response vehicle providing safety and security focused patrols, ensuring vehicle maintenance and safety checks are undertaken and documented throughout each shift.

To ensure all Mobile response drivers are fully trained and company policy documentation is checked and refreshed on an annual basis

To be able to respond to incidents and/or alarms in the Mobile response vehicles and act as incident commander

Monitor CCTV, access control, fire and intruder alarms, and respond to incidents as incident commander.

Conduct regular patrols, audits, and welfare checks across campus locations.

Maintain accurate logs, reports, and documentation using systems such as OSHENS, ISARR, and MRI Evolution.

Team Support & Development

Support onboarding, training, and development of team members, identifying areas for improvement and delivering remedial training.

Ensure uniform standards, professional conduct, and grooming are maintained across the team.

Assist with rota planning, timekeeping, and leave management, including backfilling shifts and conducting return-to-work interviews.

Uphold communication and welfare standards, ensuring all ambassadors are informed and supported during shifts.

To undertake the role ‘control room operator’ duties when covering the core control room operator

Ensuring lines of communication is upheld with all on duty CSAs to ensure welfare is upheld

To undertake the role ‘Campus Safety team leader’ when covering the CSA team leader

Campus Safety & Guest Services

Deliver a concierge-style experience, providing directions, support, and information to students, staff, and visitors.

Promote and assist with the use of campus safety tools such as the SafeZone app.

Support LSBU events including Welcome Week, graduations, and open days.

Operate reception desks, manage visitor sign-ins, and issue passes.

Provide first aid and mental health support as required.

Compliance & Standards

Ensure compliance with SIA licensing, health and safety regulations, and LSBU emergency procedures.

Maintain control room standards, including key audits, equipment checks, and data protection compliance.

To issue and ensure the return of all equipment supplied to the team to carry out their duties.

To assist with the training and development of team members under their supervision, identifying and initiating remedial training of team members as and when necessary for all core, relief officer and control room operators.

To carry out ad-hoc welfare, monitoring and communication visits to officers on post at all locations.

Assist in investigations and incident reviews, providing notes and support to the Team Leader or Operations Manager.

Participate in emergency drills and business continuity planning.

To be conversant with the procedures and trained in the operational requirements of the Emergency EVAC chairs in all buildings.

Person Specification

Essential:
SIA Door Supervisor Licence

Driving Licence

Experience in a supervisory or second-in-command role

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Calm under pressure and confident in incident response

Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Professional appearance and conduct

Desirable:
SIA CCTV Licence

First Aid & Mental Health First Aid certification

Evac Chair and Fire Safety Coordinator training

Familiarity with campus safety systems and reporting tools
