About the Role:

Provide effective leadership, guidance and direction for all Security Guards within the Security Department. Ensure compliance with all standardized safety and security policies and procedures within the company. Safeguard the company’s property from legal improprieties and loss.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education Level (ie. high school, college or university Degrees, Certificates, Diplomas, etc. required)
Must Have High School
Preferred- Post Secondary – Law, Justice, Security or Policing Certificate.

Major Subject/Specialties (ie. CGA, finance, business admin., HVAC, etc.)
Preferred-Law Enforcement Security Police Foundations Justice Studies.

Years of Work-Related Experience to Perform the Job Competently
Must Have-5 years Security experience
Preferred- 1-year supervisory experience

Additional Skills/Special Training Equipment Knowledge
Must Have- Valid Security License issued by the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services , First Aid & CPR Certification.

20 Ensure that the customer service philosophies are met and are an important part of the everyday operation of the Security Department.
25 Ensure that all Security personnel functions are being properly completed by the Security Department. Provide supervision for workers to ensure workplace safety and proper use of personal protective equipment.
30 Ensure that all employees, tenants and visitors abide by the shopping centre’s rules and regulations
10 Review all reports and notebooks completed by Security personnel to ensure accuracy and timely submission.
10 Perform duties and tasks as assigned by Cancom Leadership/Client and respond to directions from all shopping centre management.
5 Responsible for ensuring that each shift is properly manned at all times and performs Security Officer duties as required.

Complexities and Challenges

  • Supervise and conduct training programs to ensure that all Security personnel, especially new hires, understand their responsibilities and have the necessary knowledge and information to perform their jobs at maximum efficiency maintaining the highest standard of security at all times.
  • Responsible of overseeing the Security logistics from the Floor or Dispatch area.
  • Responsible for disciplining Security personnel
  • Ensure that a thorough and complete investigation and report is made for all incidents (eg. losses, thefts, accidents, damage, etc.) incurred by employees, tenants and visitors.
  • Make regular patrols recording irregularities and unsafe conditions taking corrective action either by informing the applicable department or handling it personally, wherever possible.
  • Be aware of and comply with where applicable, all employer responsibilities prescribed under the applicable provincial Health and Safety Act.

Health and Safety Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Be aware of and comply with where applicable, all employer responsibilities prescribed under the applicable provincial Health and Safety Act.
  • Identify and correct hazards noted and brought to his/her attention.
  • Notify, as appropriate, all occupants, employees, customers, suppliers, contractors, etc regarding any potential hazards.
  • Provide instruction, information and supervision to all workers regarding potential hazards and unsafe work procedures.
  • Provide supervision for workers to ensure workplace safety, and proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Conduct and record regular safety inspections of the workplace and correct or adequately address noted hazards.
  • Assist in the administration of Emergency Evacuations and Crisis Response.
  • Accommodate and assist the Joint H&S Committee in the performance of their duties.
  • Respond to inspection items noted by the joint H&S Committee workplace inspections.
  • Know and apply legislative roles and responsibilities pursuant to the Occupational H&S Act. Comply with and enforce provisions of this Act and Corporate H&S procedures.
  • Conduct accident, illness, injury and near-miss investigations as required by the Corporate H&S Manual. Provide prescribed notification to the Ministry of Labour in case of accidents or injury pursuant to legislative requirements.
  • Administer the H&S program administration and WSIB, modified work and claims management assistance, as required.
  • Ensure provision of appropriate first aid and transportation if necessary in the case of accident or injury.
  • Ensure that all workplace injuries are promptly treated, dealt with and reported as per requirements of the H&S Manual.
  • Hold workers accountable for job safety. In cases where responsibility includes conducting performance reviews, include safety.
  • Manage illness/injury investigations, refusals to work and notice to the JHSC member or the H&S Rep, as required.
  • Attend joint health and safety meetings, if/when required.
  • Ensures adequate employee training for the safe and effective conduct of their respective job functions.
  • Provides a positive role model for employees to conduct their work in a safe and healthy manner.
  • Any other role-specific duties pertaining to H&S that are applicable to this position, either currently or in the future, that may or may not be detailed above.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27.00-$30.00 per hour
