Dispensary Security Specialist

Overview

At Mother Earth’s Fine Cannabis, our Dispensary Security Specialists play a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and compliant environment for all patients, customers, and staff. This position combines traditional security responsibilities with a deep understanding of cannabis industry regulations and the unique risks associated with dispensary operations. Security staff protect the facility, enforce compliance, and maintain the calm, professional atmosphere our brand is known for.

Core ResponsibilitiesSafety & Security

• Secure the premises by patrolling both interior and exterior areas, monitoring access points, and preventing unauthorized entry.
• Maintain all physical security measures, including door locks, alarms, and access control systems, ensuring functionality and compliance.
• Monitor video surveillance (CCTV) and alarm systems, documenting and reporting any suspicious or unlawful activity.
• Manage the flow of customers and visitors to maintain an orderly, safe, and comfortable environment.
• Verify all state-issued identifications to confirm legal age and identity prior to entry.
• Enforce all dispensary policies and ensure adherence to local, state, and federal cannabis regulations.
• De-escalate conflicts or disturbances with professionalism and composure.
• Respond to emergencies (fire, injury, robbery, or other incidents) and coordinate with management, law enforcement, or first responders as needed.
• Escort vendors, deliveries, and cash transport as required, ensuring safety and discretion.
• Conduct daily security checks to identify potential risks, hazards, or maintenance concerns.

Curbside Pickups & Product Deliveries

• Monitor and manage curbside pickup areas to ensure a smooth, safe, and efficient customer experience.
• Verify customer identification and order confirmation for all curbside transactions.
• Maintain visibility during pickup hours to deter theft, unauthorized access, or unsafe activity.
• Assist staff during product deliveries by securing access points, verifying vendor credentials, and ensuring proper chain of custody.
• Support inventory staff in safely receiving and moving products to designated storage areas.
• Report any irregularities, delivery discrepancies, or security concerns immediately to management.

Industry Compliance & Awareness

• Maintain an up-to-date understanding of cannabis laws and regulations, including ID verification, access control, and restricted area protocols.
• Stay informed on current industry trends, risks, and compliance challenges.
• Support internal audits and assist compliance staff as needed to uphold security and recordkeeping standards.
• Help ensure cannabis products are securely stored, tracked, and protected from diversion or theft.

Skills & Qualifications

• Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or military service preferred.
• Working knowledge of cannabis industry regulations or willingness to complete required compliance training.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with customers, staff, and law enforcement.
• Excellent attention to detail and situational awareness.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure or rapidly changing situations.
• Must be physically capable of standing, walking, and patrolling for extended periods.
• Must pass a comprehensive background check; additional licensing or firearm certification (such as OPOTA) may be required for armed positions.

Armed vs. Unarmed Roles

• Unarmed Security: Focuses on deterrence, observation, and enforcing compliance with entry and access policies.
• Armed Security: Provides enhanced protection for cash handling and high-risk operations, requiring advanced training and certifications in accordance with state law.
