JOB TITLE: Public Safety Officer / Officer In Charge

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Non-Exempt, Full Time
WORK SCHEDULE: Schedule Tuesday-Saturday Graveyard shift 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
PAY RANGE: $21 – $22 per hour
SUMMARY: Employee performs duties relative to the security, safety and service of all within The Villages, under the supervision of the Public Safety shift Sergeant. Embodies The Villages’ Guiding Principles and Core Values of Integrity, Respect, Service Excellence, Teamwork, and Accountability, ensuring these standards are upheld in all aspects of event planning and execution.
- Follow all resident and guest entry protocols.
- Perform motorized patrols within the confines of The Villages complex to include selective traffic enforcement.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as required.
- Enforce all Villages rules and policies.
- Initiate and write reports on conditions, including field reports and citations.
- Physically check all club facilities for safety and security.
- Assist in the capture and control of both domestic and wild animals.
- Observe and report to appropriate department(s) all potentially hazardous or wasteful conditions and report all exterior lighting outages.
- Perform preventative maintenance on all security vehicles, including but not limited to checking fluid levels, washing, and maintaining fuel.
- Locate, identify, and isolate water main breaks, utility malfunctions or hazards, and sprinkler breaks that could cause property damage.
- Distribute confidential documents to selected personnel within The Villages.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
- Must be able to possess a current California Guard Card within 60 days from the hire date
- Ability to solve practical problems and cope with a wide range of situations
- Ability to interpret a variety of written, oral, or scheduled formatted instructions
- May be required to work in inclement weather conditions
- May work near moving mechanical parts, such as vehicles and a variety of construction and landscape equipment
- May be occasionally exposed to diesel or gasoline exhaust fumes or airborne particles
- Required to operate four-wheeled passenger vehicles up to and including three quarter-ton trucks
- To use a mobile radar unit and computer terminal
- May be required to work different shifts, weekend days and holidays
- Must possess high school diploma or general education (GED) certificate
- Ability to effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing
- Bilingual is desired, preferably Spanish
- Previous work in law enforcement, security, military, or related fields is desired
- Ability to handle a wide variety of situations up to and including medical emergencies
- Ability to perform extensive physical labor
- Computer expertise is desired
- Must have a valid California Class C driver’s license with a clear DMV record
- Must pass a drug screening test prior to employment
- CPR/AED, Standard First Aid and BBP training and certifications are required within one month after the hire date.
Excellent mobility is mandatory. Required to use hands and fingers, handle and feel objects, tools, and controls. Officer is required to stand for extended periods of time, walk for extended periods of time, sit, reach with hands and arms, able to reach above their head and shoulders, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally move/lift an adult during the course of a medical emergency, and be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times during their shift. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
