About the Role
The Facility Safety Officer is responsible for the overall environmental safety of a processing facility with a focus on the identification and assessment of hazards, risks and control measures. Must have expertise in operations leadership, great communication skills and be fully bilingual in English/Spanish. Must be able to work in a high-speed and diverse environment, comfortable dealing with ambiguity and must maintain a respectful relationship with the guests and provide a high level of responsiveness and social awareness.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work in support of key leadership to prevent accidents, respond to emergencies and evaluate the effectiveness of the operations safety protocols.
- Work to create a safe environment by ensuring conducting a broad range of tasks to include leading mock evacuation drills, emergency response protocols and maintain facility evacuation plan.
- Work directly with the fire marshal to ensure the facility meets requirements and makes adjustments as needed.
- Conduct operational reviews of processes to identify risks and implement control measures as needed.
- Responsible for the documentation of incident reports.
- Investigates workplace accidents and injuries and refers them to the proper authorities as needed.
- Works directly with facility leadership to ensure facility safety specifically related to occupancy levels, fleet management and logistics.
- Ensures egress locations are safe and controlled during periods of high volume.
- Responsible for the daily reporting of the facility ICS 209 report.
- Routinely check in with staff in all functional areas to ensure they have the tools and resources needed to successfully do their job.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills
- Highschool Diploma
- 2 years of experience working as a Safety Officer or related field such as EMT or Paramedic
- 1 year of experience working with migrant populations within emergency response/humanitarian environments preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish & English
- Must possess strong computer skills in MS Office, including Excel, Word, Teams
- Ability to type 45 wpm
Work Environment
This role is onsite in the San Diego area at a Migrant Processing Day Center. Tasks/assignments are dynamic and will change based on needs and resource availability, meaning this role is expected to provide additional administrative support, including the completion of data entry and other duties, as needed.
This is a full-time position that typically requires shifts during operating hours. Shifts are dependent on the position and needs of the operation. Personnel supporting this operation will be provided with a set schedule. Hours may vary depending on needs and may at times include travel, evenings, or weekends to meet specific project requirements.
- Complete a rigorous culture and competency testing process

- Must be at least 21 years of age
- A valid US Driver’s license
- Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
Security Clearance Requirements
- Applicants selected will be subject to a government background investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
- Must be a U.S Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Residency requirement – 3 consecutive years in the last 5 years.
Physical Demands
To perform the essential functions of the job, qualified candidates must be able to perform the following: reaching, grasping, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, mobility to sit for extended periods of time, carry, load and unload luggage up to 50lbs. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Required to push/pull objects occasionally/frequently. May be required to work in various environmental conditions, including exposure to heat/cold/noise. Position does require the ability to read written documentation from a computer screen throughout the workday.
Pay: $25 per hour
