Security Monitor

JOB
Under supervision, is responsible for screening, monitoring and controlling access of all individuals and containers entering secured county facilities through designated entrances; operates metal detection, x-ray scanning and other surveillance equipment; monitors and tests emergency alarm systems; researches criminal history information; maintains activity logs; completes various clerical tasks; and performs related duties as required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Screens individuals (and their possessions) entering the Adult Detention Center (ADC) for weapons and contraband; using stationary and hand-held metal detectors and x-ray scannersAlerts appropriate authority when intervention by uniformed staff is necessaryEnforces ADC visitation policy and maintains control of the ADC Lobby and visitation areasMonitors all aspects of inmate visits during the visitation processMonitors surveillance equipment and emergency alarms such as two-way radios, television (TV) camera screens, fire alarms and duress alarmsControls Justice Center security doors to allow authorized delivery, vendor, inmate and law enforcement officer accessPerforms scheduled and unscheduled tests of alarm equipment and records resultsMaintains activity logs for two-way radio transmissions, officer location, prisoner movement, transport van time and mileage, deliveries, recorded surveillance VCR tapes and Courthouse and Justice Center keysRecognizes and detects potential weapons and contraband; adjusts to rapidly fluctuating situations; multi-taskResearches defendant and suspect criminal history and driver’s license information utilizing the Texas Criminal Information Center (TCIC) and National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) computer systemsPerforms related duties as required
