Job Summary:
The Public Safety Specialist is responsible for the delivery of the Public Safety, Emergency Management, and Environmental Health & Safety programs for the organization and will be responsible for the protection of life, theft prevention and executing emergency response procedures at their assigned locations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Responsible for initial brand appearance by offering friendly and courteous interactions with others on campus.
Responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment of care. Responsible for monitoring security, facilities, fire, and other building systems. Responsible for the accurate documentation such as completion of daily, weekly, monthly, & annual assessments or checklists.
Responsible for submitting requests in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Responsible for partnering with appropriate responding agencies in case of an emergency.
Responsible for loss prevention at their assigned locations. Responsible for investigating and documenting any security, safety or other unusual activity on property.
Responsible for taking appropriate actions if criminal activity occurs on property until law enforcement arrives.
Responsible for assisting in the janitorial duties of the site to include special assignments such as trash rounding, cleaning spills, and other cleaning functions.
Responsible for minimizing risks and the spread of communicable diseases and illnesses by assisting in the infection prevention program as requested by departmental leadership.
Attends, participates, and/or assists in meetings, trainings, community outreach activities, continuing education opportunities, and other activities as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and other communications.
Knowledge of NFPA, OSHA, EPA, NIOSH, CDC, CMS, HRSA, DEA and other regulatory authority rules and guidelines.
Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
Ability to learn the layout of the property and buildings.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required, associate’s degree preferred.
1+ years of law enforcement, security, or military experience required; healthcare setting preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Prolonged periods of walking, standing, leaning, and bending.
Able to reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and climb stairs/ladders.
Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) and adequate depth perception, peripheral vision, and color vision.
Far vision (clarity at 20 feet or more).
Able to hear adequately to decipher spoken word, sounds, alarms, etc.
Able to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately and clearly.
Able to use hands and fingers for fine manipulation to touch, pick, pinch, and grasp and perform repetitive motions.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization’s physical premises.
Other Requirements:
New Hires are required to pass pre-employment background check and drug testing (effective 11/1/2022).
Current Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card or must pass fingerprint clearance within 7 days following hire.
Valid and current driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
