About the Position
The Security Screener ensures the safety and welfare of the assigned division in the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office by using developed programs to deter and limit opportunities for contraband to be brought into a facility. The Security Screener performs security and screening services, operational functions, and limited administrative duties related to maintaining the security and safety of assigned facilities and personnel, as well as all clients and the general public.

Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire.

Knowledge of electronic screening stations, hand-held metal detection equipment, and two-way radio systems.

Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS – IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.

Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass an extensive background review.

Conducts screening of employees, contractors and visitors using walk-through body scanning machines and line scanners to ensure compliance with Office policy.

Performs pat-down or hand-held wand searches of employees or visitors who have triggered machine alarms, who are unable to pass through body scanners, or who have been randomly identified for such searches.

Inspects items to determine whether further investigation is necessary to ensure compliance with Office policy.

Inspects identification badges, provides access control for approved persons, and prevents unauthorized access to restricted areas.

Provides customer service by greeting employees and visitors and communicating directions.

Notifies appropriate supervisory personnel of suspicious activity or instances of non-compliance with required procedures by employees, contractors, or visitors.

Follows and enforces County policies, applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

Implements emergency procedures when appropriate or as needed.

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate up to the midpoint of the range, based on relevant experience, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.
