ABOUT THIS POSITION

Join our progressive team and contribute to one of the most innovative cities in the country! As part of the 5th largest city in the U.S., located in a rapidly growing county, you'll help protect our critical infrastructure.

As a Municipal Security Guard in the Police Department's Infrastructure Protection Unit, you'll play a key role in securing City Hall and other downtown buildings around the clock. Your duties will include:

  • Performing high-visibility security tasks across multiple city buildings.
  • Conducting security screenings during council functions.
  • Scanning daily mail and providing security escorts.
  • Offering key assists and responding to elevator entrapments.
  • Coordinating with private contract security teams.

You'll also assist with staffing the Central Monitoring Station, monitoring security cameras, answering facility calls, handling alarms from key sites, and managing badge access. The current opening is for a night shift position following training on the day and swing shifts.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Ability to operate CCTV.
  • Ability to write reports of daily activity and detailed Incident reports.
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to help customers who are dealing with very difficult and emotional situations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiar with X-ray machines, metal detectors, and hand wand metal detectors.

SALARY

Pay Range: $20.02 to $32.62 per hour.

Hiring Range: $20.02 to $32.62 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Demonstrated ability to do or learn to do security, as shown by prior training and experience.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted

  • Positions in the Police Department must meet the background standards that are appropriate to non-sworn positions. The general factors for disqualification are listed here.
  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings will be required.
  • Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess an appropriate valid Arizona driver's license, possess personal insurance coverage, and have an acceptable driving record.
  • Customer service experience helping customers in person, over the phone and via email.
  • Proficient utilizing a computer in a Microsoft Windows environment to include Outlook Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working alongside law enforcement.
  • Experience working in a government building as a security officer.
  • Experience responding to emergency situations.
