Description

This is a full-time, CASA role. The salary grade for this posting is 0037. The salary range is $48,491 to $75,778. Please note that the final salary will be determined by our Classification and Compensation team after reviewing the candidate's experience and considering our internal salary equity.

Title: Trainer, School Safety Operations
Department: School Climate & Safety
Reports To: Director of Training

Job Summary:
Plans, implements and conducts a training program for the Office of School Climate & Safety. Develops and updates course content which responds to staff needs as well as meets the objectives of the School District and the Office of School Climate & Safety. Ensures that the training program reflects new developments in school security/police techniques and procedures nationwide. Provides in-service training at various District facilities to personnel engaged in the provision of school safety and/or security services.

Essential Functions:
  • Receives requests from line, supervisory and management personnel for training and determines through consultation with such personnel, the specific areas for training, the population to be served, and the approximate number of participants.
  • Plans, develops and updates course content, and selects training materials and supplies to be used.
  • Designs programs to meet identifiable needs and concerns, and coordinates all training activities with overall objectives of the School District and the Office of School Climate & Safety.
  • Provides training in areas which include, but are not limited to, interpersonal, supervisory, and management skills.
  • Prepares written evaluations for management of the progress of School Police Officers during initial training which include recommendations for retaining or rejecting probationary employees.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the training programs on a continual basis and modifies programs accordingly to enhance their effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Maintains data regarding the number and types of training programs in development and/or in process and assesses this information to ensure training continuity.
  • As required, provides line, supervisory and management staff with information and guidelines to be used as follow-up to training sessions.
  • Prepares periodic and special reports related to departmental training activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree at an accredited college of university.
  • Two years of full-time, paid, law enforcement or security experience which has involved planning, developing and implementing training and personnel development programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated knowledge of:
o current practices and theories of training and professional development.
o current trends and practices in building and personnel safety and security.
o effective instruction strategies.
o adult education methodology.

Demonstrated ability to:
o plan, develop and conduct training programs.
o recognize areas of personnel development and training needs.
o evaluate and assess program outcomes and effectiveness.
o communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
o establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and associates.
