Security Officer (part-time)

JOB TITLE: Security Officer – Part Time (every weekend or every other weekend 8:00am-4:00pm)

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Security Manager, the Security Officer will be responsible for protecting our residents, staff and all visitors to our campus, as well as all associated property. Responding to fire and medical calls are our main priority. Assist the residents in order to ensure their safety and comfort, in compliance with established security policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This summarizes the major essential duties and responsibilities regularly performed and normally assigned to this position. Listed below are the duties in descending order of importance and are as clear and specific as possible. Other duties may be assigned.

• Responds to Fire and Medical Calls.
• Performs interior and exterior building patrols.
• Assures site security by making sure that only invited guests are allowed entry to the campus.
• Performs scheduled checks of building safety and security systems.
• Maintains equipment, in good working order, assuring work area is neat and orderly.
• May deliver flowers or packages to residents who are unable to retrieve them due to an illness.
• Provides overall support to all departments within Shannondell.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, gatehouse operation instructions and site procedures manual. Ability to speak effectively to our residents, fellow employees and management.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to collect data, establish facts and report what you observe.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Ability to operate several different types of computer systems, to ensure the safety and security of the campus.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must maintain a current state driver’s license, CPR certification.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities. Ability to work in a fast paced and quick changing environment. Ability to focus on responsibilities and follow established procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands on finger, handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee is also required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel and crouch. On occasion, the employee is required to sit, climb or balance, and crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

OSHA EXPOSURE RISK CATEGORY: Category 2. Work environment involves slight physical risks that require the useof applicable PPE (personal protective equipment).

OTHER WORK REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and exhibit a strong positive attitude toward customer service and have a genuine interest in geriatric care and uphold the philosophy of the community.
