Position Title
Security – Shift Supervisor

Overview
St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students each year. Across its five Schools, Fisher offers nearly 40 majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, education, and nursing; 11 pre-professional programs; and master’s and doctoral programs in business, nursing, education, pharmacy, and public health. Job Responsibilities
  • Supervises officers, dispatchers, shuttle drivers and temporary help on his/her shift (20%);
  • Performs all security functions and patrols (10%);
  • Provide aid and assistance in emergencies (2%);
  • Respond to, investigate and prepare reports on criminal complaints, fire alarms, injuries, accidents and illnesses (10%);
  • Lock and unlock campus buildings as required (10%);
  • Provide traffic/parking control of vehicles on campus; provide security escorts to students, staff and faculty when requested (10%);
  • Helps maintain smooth flow of traffic (2%);
  • Enforces local, state, and federal laws and university regulations (25%);
  • Investigates all fire alarms, and boiler alarms (2%);
  • Renders first aid in emergencies (2%);
  • Orders transport for injured to hospital (2%);
  • Unlocks and secures buildings as required (5%);
  • Performs other duties as required.

Education / Experience
Associate Degree in Criminal Justice preferred; or combination of education and experience. Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in security/public safety. Must have working knowledge of New York State Penal and Traffic codes and be familiar with approved safety and security standards for university security.

Competencies / Skills
Above average interpersonal skills in both verbal and written communications.

Supervision of Employees
Supervises officers, dispatchers, shuttle drivers and temporary help on his/her shift.

Work Environment
Patrols, inspections and investigations require frequent in and outdoor routines in all types or weather conditions; foot, vehicle and stationary patrols required; possible exposure to hazardous materials, severe weather conditions and physical confrontations with unstable persons and individuals who are violating laws and regulations.

Equipment to be Used
Must be able to operate all equipment and systems used by the Security Department including PC’s, portable radios, telephone switchboard, digital camera, fire alarms and suppression systems and emergency equipment as well as university owned vehicles.

Full-time

Work Hours
11pm-7am; Full-time 40 hours per week on a rotating 4/2 – 5/2 schedule, 12 months a year. Must be able to work a shift work wheel that includes holidays, weekends and special university functions.

Special Conditions for Eligibility
Must have or be able to obtain a New York State Security Guard License; Must have a valid driver license

Salary / Hourly Range
$19.00 – $21.00 per hour
