Position: Security Guard with F02

Salary/Hourly Wage: $24.00/hour

Full-Time or Part-Time: Full-Time

Hours of Availability: Must have open availability to work any shift at a 24/7 site. Shifts will vary and change daily. There is no set schedule for this position.

The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive environment for shelter residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors. This role requires a calm, respectful, and trauma-informed approach while enforcing shelter policies, monitoring facility security, and responding to incidents in a professional and compassionate manner.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor shelter premises, including entrances, exits, and common areas, to ensure safety and security
• Enforce shelter rules and policies in a respectful, non-confrontational manner
• Conduct regular security patrols of the building and surrounding areas
• Control access to the facility by checking identification and maintaining visitor logs
• Respond promptly to incidents, disturbances, medical emergencies, or safety concerns
• Utilize de-escalation techniques to manage conflicts and reduce risk
• Communicate effectively with shelter staff, supervisors, and emergency services when necessary
• Complete accurate incident reports, logs, and shift documentation
• Observe and report safety hazards, suspicious activity, or maintenance concerns
• Support a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and inclusive environment
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Must have a valid, active New York State Security Guard License
• Must have F02 – Certificate of Fitness for Fire Guard for Shelters
• Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
• Strong observation, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Previous experience in security, shelter services, social services, or a related field preferred
• Training or experience in conflict resolution, crisis intervention, or de-escalation preferred
