The role and our team
At the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, we pride ourselves on our creative communications.
Our agenda – which includes issues such as energy security, energy bills and tackling climate change – means we are always in the news.
We're looking for expert communicators with proven skills in media relations to join our team, drafting high-quality plans to tell the story on some of the Government's highest priorities.
The successful candidates will be experienced in translating detailed information into engaging and easy-to-understand language, delivering creative communications plans that encompass a range of channels including traditional and social media.
The talented and high-profile press office at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero is staffed by a team of committed, professional communicators. As a member of the Government Communications Service, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills with both formal and informal training and mentoring.

Office attendance
The Department operates a discretionary hybrid working policy, which provides for a combination of working hours from your place of work and from your home in the UK. The current expectation for staff is to attend the office or non-home based location for 40-60% of the time over the accounting period.

Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift, or progressed straight to assessment/interview.
The interview will consist of behaviours and a written exercise.

DESNZ does not normally offer full home working (i.e. working at home); but we do offer a variety of flexible working options (including occasionally working from home).

Applicants who are successful at interview will be, as part of pre-employment screening, subject to a check on the Internal Fraud Database (IFD).
