Security/Safety Officer (1 PM – 9 PM).
Work Schedule 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Tuesday – Saturday. Days off – Sunday/Monday.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
In keeping with the Mission Statement and principles of Covenant House, the Security/Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of residents, staff, and the physical facility.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains a log of all pertinent information and happenings on shift.
- Monitors entry into the building complex through ground patrol and the use of surveillance cameras.
- Monitors fire alarm systems in the security office.
- Maintains the agency vehicle logs; oversees vehicle check-in and out; oversees timely reporting of accident reports and notifies AOC and/or Ex. Director.
- Responsible for receiving and issuing youth CYBA funds.
- Prevents theft of or damage to Covenant House property as well as that belonging to residents and staff.
- Aids in resolving emergencies.
- Protects residents and staff from physical harm by performing safety checks of staff, residents, volunteers, and visitors on Covenant House Texas property.
- Performs room checks for youth as needed.
- Answers agency phones after hours.
- Conducts perimeter checks on buildings and properties.
- Maintains vehicle logs and checks for damage.
- Performs other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Prefer a high school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of security experience is preferred.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to climb stairs, as needed.
- Must be able to walk the perimeter of the property, as needed.
- Must be able to lift, bend, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to multitask and work with frequent distractions and interruptions.
- Must be able to report to work and meetings promptly.
- Must have basic math skills.
- Maintain a positive and friendly attitude.
- Must be able to work inside/outside in extreme heat and chilly weather conditions.
- Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License and driving record acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier.

After more than 35 years of service, CHT offers an extensive continuum of care model for homeless youth including mental health and substance abuse counseling, educational and vocational training, transitional and permanent living programs, street outreach and prevention, pastoral ministry and parenting classes in addition to providing the basic necessities of food, clothing, medical care and safe shelter from the streets for youth in crisis.
