Position Description

Security personnel promote and provide a safer and secure environment for residents, staff members and visitors as a uniformed presence on campus. The primary responsibility is to ensure that the facility and its residents are kept safe from environmental and security risks. Additionally, a security staff member performs foot patrols of the campus to monitor behavior, secure buildings and property, maintain order and enforce regulations. They monitor the physical safety of campus buildings.


Principal Responsibilities

  • Maintains visibility and assistance to team members, residents and visitors to ensure security, and to detect and prevent theft, property damage, unauthorized persons, and unauthorized exits.
  • Manages the security guard post, delivery gate and visitor sign-in process.
  • Manages the campus security cameras and CCTV.
  • Escorts residents, visitors and staff members inside and outside of the campus.
  • Issues and registers visiting passes to visitors entering the campus through the main entrance.
  • Enforces resident passes for residents entering and exiting the campus.
  • Assists nursing team members in maintaining a safe environment for confused or disruptive residents,
  • Assists police departments with disruptive persons and crisis visitors.
  • Initiates and follows standard operating procedure for disaster incidents as per department protocol,
  • Removes individuals who exhibit inappropriate behavior, disorderly conduct and/or who pose a threat to team members, residents and visitors from company property.
  • Makes rounds of entire campus to detect and report hazards and takes appropriate, corrective action as indicated by the hazard.
  • Participates in Emergency Preparedness Drills and other related compliance activities.
  • Utilizes the security dispatch and report writing system.
  • Utilizes the resident charting system to maintain resident security.
  • Documents reports, including details in the event of stolen property, accidents, safety/security violations, fire hazards and violent incidents.
  • Assists with parking, traffic problems and enforces parking regulations.
  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or assigned at any time with or without notice.


General Responsibilities

  • Attends and participates in scheduled training, educational classes, and meetings to maintain current certification as applicable; Attends and participates in in-service training as mandated by regulatory agencies and company policy.
  • Adheres to work schedules in completing and performing assigned tasks; completes all assigned tasks in a timely manner as instructed by the direct supervisor.
  • Meets acceptable center attendance requirements; notifies facility before late arrival to or absence from work according to established center policy.
  • Cooperates with other facility personnel to ensure that services can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of residents; creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment.
  • Adheres to established employee policies.
  • Adheres to established dress code.

  • Models customer service principals throughout the center and promotes appreciation of our customer’s needs.
  • Treats residents, residents’ family members, visitors and fellow employees with courtesy, respect, and dignity.

  • Ability to solve problems and respond appropriately to stressful situations.
  • Ability to deal with difficult/confrontation people.


Residents Rights

  • Understands, upholds and promotes the rights of the residents.
  • Ensures residents can exercise rights without interference, coercion, discrimination, or reprisal from the facility.
  • Ensures protected health information is kept confidential.
  • Ensures resident concerns/complaints are responded to with tact and urgency.
  • Reports allegations of resident abuse, neglect and/or misappropriation of resident property.
  • Coordinates effective communication with Residents and Companions by assuring all arrangements for providing interpreters and/or other auxiliary aids and services needed by Residents and Responsible Party are made.


Safety and Sanitation

  • Follows established safety policies and procedures.
  • Identifies and corrects safety hazards; reports safety concerns as required.
  • Observes safety needs of residents as indicated in care plan.
  • Wears and/or uses safety equipment and supplies when indicated and properly trained to use.
  • Demonstrates job-specific knowledge of fire and disaster preparedness during drills or actual situations.


Staff Development

  • Attends and participates in scheduled in-service training, educational classes and meetings.
  • Proactive approach to professional development in the security sector.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


Qualifications

  • Highschool diploma or equivalency preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in the security sector preferred.
  • Proficient IT/computer skills and technical equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Presents professional image through appearance, behavior and speech.


Travel

  • Minimal local travel.
