Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Security Officer Chief for the Chicago-Read Mental Health Center located in Chicago, Illinois to plan, organize and direct all operations of the Security Services in compliance with Departmental and facility policies and procedures. Serves as working supervisor. Verifies appropriate security services staffing levels. Supervises, trains, verifies competency, evaluates, and provides progressive discipline to the Security Services. Coordinates security services activities with other disciplines within the facility and serves as facility liaison within the Department of Human Services, Law Enforcement Agencies, Community resources and Office of Inspector General (OIG).

Essential Functions

  • Serves as Security Officer Chief for the Chicago-Read Mental Health Center.
  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Following hospital and departmental policies and procedures, physically restrains and controls combative and/or violent patients.
  • As a member of the Safety Committee, conducts facility safety rounds.
  • Coordinates security services activities with other disciplines within the facility and serves as facility liaison within the Department of Human Services, Law Enforcement Agencies, Community resources and Office of Inspector General (OIG).
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
  • Requires two (2) years supervisory experience in safety and protection service or investigative work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience working with security requirements and regulations for a public or private organization.
  • Three (3) years of experience directing the daily operations of a Security Department for a public or private organization.
  • Five (5) years of experience working with emergency response procedures including fire safety and controls for a public or private organization.
  • Three (3) years of experience supervising and training staff.
  • Three (3) years of experience formulating security regulations and emergency response plans consistent with regulations and directives.
  • Five (5) years of experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
  • Requires ability to climb stairs, physically restrain and control combative and/or violent patients.
  • Requires ability to be independently mobile to accomplish required rounds (in and outside facility).
  • Requires ability to respond to facility-wide emergencies and perform emergency medical duties/assistance.
  • Requires ability to perform and deliver mouth to mask CPR and manual resuscitation in emergencies.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Work Hours: 8:00am – 4:00pm; Monday-Friday, 30-minute paid lunch
