Job Description

SCHEDULE: Part-time position, must be available to work varying shifts (i.e. Weekdays, weekends, morning, mid, evening, or late-night shifts). The work schedule will largely revolve around shows scheduled at the Salt Shed music venue.

LOCATION: Goose Island Pub – 1221 W Blackhawk St.

COMPANY: Since 1988, Goose Island Beer Co., Chicago's original craft brewery, has been shaping the craft beer scene here in Chicago and beyond. We recently opened our new brewpub location next to the Salt Shed – an exciting waterfront dining and entertainment destination. The Goose Island Pub at the Salt Shed offers a unique beer and culinary experience with a skyline-backed riverfront patio, alongside Chicago's best new music venue, which hosts 200+ concerts and events each year. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional service and high-quality dishes and are seeking talented new members to contribute to the success of our new location.

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Security Door Person plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment at the Goose Island Salt Shed Pub. They are the first line of defense for the establishment, ensuring a positive customer experience while maintaining safety and order. They also validate identification requirements, enforce legal compliance, and manage crowd control to prevent disturbances or dangers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet patrons as they enter and thank them as they leave.
  • Check guests’ identification before they enter the restaurant when necessary.
  • Know and understand the ID guides that are provided by the restaurant for training in identifying potential fake IDS.
  • Know the acceptable forms of ID that required for entrance to the Goose Island Pub.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of guests to maintain security of premises.
  • Maintain our standards of hospitality while having a controlling presence that will deter problems and diffuse any guest tensions.
  • Be assertive if having to deny entrance to a patron because you suspect that their ID is fake or you have identified them as over served.
  • Work with management when escorting someone off the premises if they are cut-off from drinking and asked to leave.
  • Investigate any disturbances.
  • Never leave the door unattended. Have a manager or another approved team member cover you for breaks.
  • Follow and know all rules and policies stated in the employee handbook.
  • Report any potential safety issues involving the facility, employees, or guests.
  • Use independent judgment when addressing guests carrying bags or backpacks that you suspect may contain outside food or drinks, which are not allowed in the pub.
  • Pick up any trash you see littering the premises and throw it away.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must know how to speak, read, and understand English.
  • Must have ability to pay attention to detail in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks and have a high level of patience.
  • Previous door bounce or security experience is a plus.
  • Must know the liquor laws to make sure that patrons are not over served and must possess Bassett Certification.
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining standards.
  • Use of proper language and decorum; vulgar language will not be tolerated and might be offensive to others around you.
  • Ability to use judgement and recognize when a potential problem might exist or a situation that could go wrong.
  • Outgoing, energetic personality with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Must be available to work varying shifts (i.e. Weekdays, weekends, morning, mid, evening, or late night shifts)
  • Good organizational and communication skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Conducts work in a standing position primarily; however, job requires frequent walking, bending, stooping, and moderate lifting.
  • Must be able to work in an environment where there may be regular exposure to noise, temperature fluctuations.
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for the duration of the shift.
