Job Details:
Purpose
Provides essential security support for Applied Research Laboratories (ARL) to monitor and respond to security threats, alarms and emergencies to protect employees, secure facilities and safeguard classified information.
Responsibilities
-
Safeguard classified and controlled unclassified information.
-
Immediately respond to alarms.
-
Perform effective access control. Ensure only authorized persons and items enter (or depart) the premises.
-
Control vehicle access to facility and use a vehicle reservation system for staff use of lab vehicles.
-
Identify employees, visitors, check badges and issue temporary badges.
-
Conduct random inspections.
-
Perform security checks and report actual or potential safety and fire hazards. Observe and report conditions or situations which may lead to increased risks or other dangers.
-
Ensure strict compliance with established procedures related to emergency response or urgent actions.
-
Assist in other aspects of facility protection through other assigned duties required to support ARL operations. Perform roles and functions as part of a larger team.

Interact with employees, visitors and guests to provide courteous, professional assistance to personnel on site.

Complete various log entries and forms as official records and documentation.
-
Make telephonic and email notifications relevant to ARL UT security status.

Answer incoming telephone calls.

Effectively operate computer systems, utilize email, monitor closed circuit video monitoring equipment, operate fax machine, and utilize ARL UT public address system.

Receive and document after hour mail deliveries.
-
Work off site at Lake Travis Test Station.

Complete mandatory and recurring training related to position necessary to maintain proficiency and improve capability.

Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
-
High school graduation/GED.
-
Demonstrated communication and grammar skills.
-
Report writing.
-
Ability to pay attention to detail and produce accurate work.

Must be flexible to work varied shift assignments.
-
Ability to use common office equipment.
-
Applicant must be able to walk up and down stairs to make security checks.
U.S. Citizenship. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information, job offer will be contingent on selected applicant applying for access to classified information within 14 days of job offer and receiving at least interim access to classified information within 10 days of the application being submitted. If interim access is approved as described, employment must commence within 30 days of approval for access. Eligibility for access must continue without interruption during employment in this position. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications

Eligibility for immediate access to classified information.

More than one year experience as a guard or security officer.

Formal training in law enforcement,
-
DoD or industrial security.
-
College level course work, computer use proficiency, Excel, MS Word, etc.

Ability to swim and comfortable around an aquatic environment.

Basic life support CPR training.

Salary Range

Work Shift
Variable shift assignments including weekend, overnight and holiday shifts. Shift work will include shifts at the Lake Travis Test Station.
