Job Description

SUMMARY:

  • Performs routine security enforcement work including patrolling grounds
  • Manning security booth
  • Monitoring visitors
  • Monitoring cameras
  • Checking visitors into campus using Raptor system
  • Inspecting and safeguarding buildings, property, and equipment
  • Directing traffic
  • Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Greets and issues visitor passes using Raptor and contacts departments for visitor authorization
  • Performs campus tours including patrolling grounds, watching for unauthorized entries to campus, documenting staff working after hours, and walking through residential and student buildings
  • Escorts students and assists staff with behavior problems
  • Directs traffic, issues citations, places and picks up directional signs for events
  • Responds to emergencies including fire alarms, medical emergencies, crisis events, elevator emergencies, and various alarm systems
  • General security tasks related to special events
  • Issues vehicle keys and gas credit cards
  • Documents all daily acitivities via incident reports and logs
  • Operates communication and security equipment including handheld radios, ALERTUS emergency mass notification system, security transportation vehicles, cell phone, security camera system, fire alarm system

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six months of experience in security or law enforcement
  • Sign Language: The ultimate required proficiency level for the position using the levels designated in the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) is INTERMEDIATE. If hired with a sign language proficiency level below this level, you are required to participate in signed communication learning opportunities on a regular basis until you have achieved the sign language proficiency level assigned to your position.

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

  • Proficient signed communications skills
  • Training by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer’s Standards and Education
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, water safety
  • Prior work experience with children in a school or related environment
  • Experience in security for a State of Texas agency or in a public school

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of traffic and parking regulations, of emergency reporting procedures, state agency policies and procedures, and of general and criminal state laws.
  • Skill in monitoring and assessing situations; in determining appropriate response; in the use of surveillance, monitoring, and detection equipment; and in using emergency law enforcement equipment.
  • Ability to enforce security rules and regulations, to conduct investigations, to prepare reports, to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations, and to communicate effectively
