Job Description

  • To protect hospital employees, doctors, and patients while inside or to and from the hospital.
  • Escorts employees upon requests.
  • Maintain high degree of visibility.
  • Maintain the peace and tranquility of the hospital and its environment.
  • To direct the normal business flow of visitors, patients, salespersons, etc. who may be in need of information or direction.
  • To enforce the hospital patients and visitors’ rules and regulation of conduct.
  • To engage in preventive patrol within the hospital, checking in at all nursing stations on all floors while enforcing patient visiting hours.
  • Greets visitors and issues passes.
  • Check requested room number against patient in room.
  • Monitor cameras.
  • Respond to all disturbances and disaster plans as outlined in the Hospital Emergency Preparedness Plan.
  • Establish a working relationship with other departments in the hospital.
  • Respond to all fires, real or mock drills.
  • Perform the functions and duties assigned to a particular post and assume the duties and responsibilities pertaining to that post.
  • Respond to all calls for assistance by any hospital employee who may be in need of immediate help or requesting assistance.
  • To patrol the exterior of the hospital in an aggressive manner checking hospital and employee property in the various parking lots.
  • Is observant to illegal parking, shipping, and receiving area, suspicious activity, violation of safety rules or hospital policy on the part of employees.
  • Monitors no smoking policy, food/beverages taken out of cafeteria.
  • Check bags taken to and from patient rooms.
  • Answers phones, takes messages as needed.
  • Must sign out keys and radios.
  • Check packages and boxes being taken out by employees if suspicious.
  • Check administrative offices after hours for doors left unlocked.
  • Ensure that alarms are set at the proper time.
  • Respond to all fire alarm calls in the hospital and ensure that doors and elevators are covered as directed by the Security Supervisor.
  • Examine doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
  • Warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehend or expel persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.
  • Perform any other duties as instructed and/or assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) 20 Hours Training Certification.

At least two years related experience of working in a hospital setting.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
