Job Description

About The Role

The London Borough of Islington is seeking to recruit a School Crossing Patrol Officer on a permanent, part time basis. The vacancy is in Amwell Street EC1R 1XU, supporting the children of Hugh Myddelton Primary School.

Main duties are;

1. To ensure the safety of children while crossing the road at a designated point on their way to and from school, whilst ensuring that the discharge of these duties does not endanger other road users.

2. To assist adult pedestrians to cross the road at the designated point when this serves the best interests of road safety, such as assisting the elderly or physically impaired.

We’re keen to hear from you if you are responsible, able to demonstrate traffic awareness, and are keen to show dedication and commitment to help make the roads of Islington safer for our children and other pedestrians. The job involves working for 10 hours per week during term time, typically an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon. Training and a uniform will be provided. The successful applicant will help to ensure the safety of pedestrians crossing the road at a designated location during specific times. You will have experience of working with children, a good understanding of the Highway Code, clear verbal communication skills and be both reliable and punctual.

In addition, you must be fit enough to stand for long periods of time, be prepared to work in all weather conditions, have good eyesight and hearing and be confident to stop traffic.

Join our School Crossing Patrol Service and be part of your local community carrying out the important role of ensuring the safety of children on the way to and from school.

Islington Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff, and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointment to the post is subject to satisfactory clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
