Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a terrific opportunity for a Security Officer as part of the Connect Plus Services (CPS) team based in Dartford, Kent.

You will be managing the busiest network in Europe can be challenging and our security team play a key part in keeping our customers and clients safe. You will be working as part of a team of security operatives who are responsible for the Kent Marshalling area, Security office, cycle transport and Dartford security patrols.

We are looking to recruit into this team to assist with the efficient operation of the Dartford Depot as a member of our professional Security Team.

You will be working as part of an inclusive team of Security Operatives, where no one day is the same, performing the following roles: Kent Marshalling Area (KMA), Security Office, Cycle Transport and Dartford Security Patrols.

Our Security Officers work a 4-on 4-off shift pattern, consisting of 2x day shifts and 2x night shifts, followed by 4x rest days. This equates to 184 working shifts per year.


What you'll be doing

  • Monitor and operate security CCTV systems.
  • Support the transport of cyclists across the Dartford River Crossing.
  • Patrol and audit the network and Depots on foot and in a vehicle.
  • Respond to all security related incidents.
  • Manage the issuing of keys.
  • Manage the issuing of contractor permits.
  • Accurately maintain security procedure audit trails.
  • Ensure all security policies and procedures are robustly applied.
  • Support the Security Office Administrator.
  • Any other duties, commensurate with the position, as required by the Security Manager. Always apply the organisations Security Principles.
  • Ensure a relentless focus on our Zero Harm safety initiative.

Kent Marshalling Area (KMA) Duties:

  • Marshal all vehicles coming into the KMA.
  • Process Dangerous Goods Vehicles.
  • Deliver a first-class Customer Service.
  • Liaise with DVSA and the emergency services.
  • Monitor Forward Tanker bay.
  • Prepare KMA as Emergency Services RVP – if required.
  • Follow and act on directions from Control Room Manager in relation to movement of vehicles from the KMA.

Who we're looking for

  • Previous Customer Service experience.
  • Previous security experience.
  • First Aid experience.

Working arrangements

Our Security Officers work a 4-on 4-off shift pattern paid based on an average of 42 hours per week. The shift pattern consists of 2x day shifts and 2x night shifts, followed by 4x rest days. This equates to 184 working shifts per year.
