Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Security Supervisor reports to the Security Manager and is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the refinery. The Security Supervisor will act as a visible deterrent to crime and security rule infractions; they detect, report, and act upon where needed suspicious, unsafe or criminal acts, which may be a threat to employees, Company property, or guests. This positon will report security concerns, security breaches and unusual circumstances both verbally and in writing, maintain compliance with all facility and governmental security regulations, while building and maintaining effective relationships with both employees and guests. The Security Supervisor will have responsibility for acting as the backup Facility Security Officer (FSO) in the Security Manager’s absence. Travel is negligible and will be less than 5%, if needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent plus at least 3 years of applicable security experience
  • Experience utilizing access control systems (i.e. Honeywell, Prowatch, and SharePoint)
  • Proficient in the use of CCTV systems (analog and IP)
  • Basic knowledge of Marine Transportation Security Regulations
  • Prior experience working in security or related capacity in an industrial setting

PREFERRED EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution with a concentration in Criminal Justice Science or related field
  • Prior experience with port compliance/audits is highly preferred


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Security Supervisor must successfully complete an approved Transport Canada MTSA course to become a certified Facility Security Officer (FSO) within his/her first thirty (30) days of employment.
  • In the Security Manager/ FSO’s absence, the Security Supervisor will have responsibility for the Toronto security program to include acting as the alternate FSO
  • Support the Security mission of the refinery, ensuring all refinery employees, contractors and visitors are fully compliant with all refinery rules and regulations
  • Completes all required MTSA, FSP, and CFR requirements
  • Walks the facility regularly to ensure compliance with security regulations; escalates issues as needed
  • Support the Human Resources department by creating access credentials for newly hired personnel and for current personnel as the situation dictates;
  • Ensures all aspects of the Facility Security Plan are followed by all refinery personnel; this includes all inspections and completion of logs to ensure compliance with federal law;
  • Monitor CCTV systems for access violations and procedural errors; correct as needed in conjunction with the Security Manager;
  • In conjunction with the Security Manager, direct and supervise contracted guard service personnel in day-to-day security business and operations. Must understand the scheduling of contracted security personnel.
  • Function as the alternate FSO when the need arises for audits, compliance issues, etc.
  • Ensure expert handling of all security incident requirements; liaise with all applicable local, state and federal law enforcement agencies (in particular, Canadian Boarder Services and Transport Canada)
  • Function as the incident commander in all emergency response situations in the refinery (fire, medical, severe weather, etc.)
  • Available to perform all functions when scheduled to be on-call;
  • Keeps the Security Manager well informed, both verbally and in writing, of any and all issued within assigned area of responsibility;
  • Performs other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to work in an Industrial Manufacturing setting
  • Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during shift
  • Stand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet).
  • Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties
  • Occasionally lift or carry up to 40 pounds
  • Run as needed
  • Constant use of both hands and arms in reaching/handling/grasping/fingering while using phone, notepad, writing reports,
    and other administrative tasks
  • Constant use of eyes to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers, view security monitors
  • Work in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain or heat
  • Constant mental alertness and attention to detail required while setting priorities and following up on assignments
