About Us:

The Kettle Society supports people with mental illness to lead healthier lives by providing support services, advocacy, employment, mentoring and housing. We work to raise awareness of mental health issues, break down stigma and reduce barriers for people with mental illness. Our goal is to promote inclusion of people living with mental illness in all aspects of society.

Kettle on Burrard has 140 units, located on Burrard Street across from St. Paul’s Hospital. This is a 16- story affordable housing project includes community and commercial space. Easily accessible by transit. We have a team of Security Building Attendants as part of the Environmental Services Team.

The Position:

Are you interested in being part of the Infrastructure & Facilities Team that provides security to residents and making a difference in people's lives? Our team is looking to fill casual shifts with an emphasis on over-night coverage as a Security Building Attendant with the flexibility to work Monday to Sunday, weekends and statuary holidays.

Primarily performs security duties at the point of entrance to the building as part of the Infrastructure & Facilities Team. Interacts with residents, observes resident behavior, investigates and handles disturbances, deals with tenant emergencies and reports incidents to appropriate staff or authorities. The Attendant will also perform related administrative functions and record keeping for the department.

Hours & Days: We are currently seeking individuals with availability to work all shifts including overnights

Shifts hours are: 7:30am to 3:30pm, 3pm to 11pm, & 6pm to 10pm, & 10:30pm to 8:30am

Shifts are offered Monday to Sunday (Statuary Holidays included)

Salary & Compensation: $23.42 + 10% on each hour worked in lieu of vacation & statutory holiday and $2.50 overnight premium.

Qualifications:

• Completion of Grade 12
• Two years recent related experience
• Or, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Current and up to date certificates in Occupational First Aid Level 1
• WHMIS
• Mental Health First-Aid

Ability:

• Ability to monitor security equipment and other related equipment
• Ability to work with people with mental illness, hoarders, homeless, at risk and addictions
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Ability to organize and prioritize work
• Problem solving skills
• Ability to perform administrative duties
• Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment
• Must be able to work independently and in cooperation with others
• Must be physically able to carry out the duties of the position
